First RPGs you played

Even though I started gaming in the early 90's I didn't own any RPG games either on Nintendo or my old 386 computer.

I would say my first two were

Diablo 1 and Golden Sun on the GBA.

I remember in about 1998 I built my first PC so I could play Starcraft and I borrowed a copy of Diablo and I managed to beat it on some Christmas morning.

I got a GBA for Christmas along with Golden Sun.

Both which got me into the RPG games which I still enjoy today.

Bloodwych on C64 was my first, although I could not make heads nor tails of it.

When I was bit older I got Amiga 500, and on it I just loved Eye of Beholder and Black Crypt. Also, Heroquest! And Amberstar. Oh yeah, Amberstar was so awesome game.

So yeah, Amiga 500 is where i fell in love with rpgs.

Final Fantasy 7 8 and 9

Pokémon Red /Blue

Game that is actually classified as RPG, probably the original Zelda. Although I played some games in the early to mid 80's that were RPG like.

The game that got me hooked on the genre was Morrowind. Changed the entire way I looked at video games completely. It was incredible.

Dragon Warrior on the NES.

Phantasy Star on the Sega Master System.

Bards Tale on Commodore 64 at my buddies house.

1st RPG I owned was Dragon Warrior NES.

Chrono Trigger was my first RPG.

Wonder Boy in Monster World for the SEGA Genesis

Pokémon Red

Illusion of Gaia, followed by EarthBound. Both for Super Nintendo.

Exactly what I was going to say. Wow!

First RPG that I have played? Dragon Age maybe. Hated it.

But the first RPG that i fell in love with was Chrono Trigger. It got me into the genre.

Pokemon Blue.

Played the original Zelda a few years before that, which is sometimes classified as an RPG. I don’t see it as a traditional RPG myself though.

Nice. They were great games. It wasn't till I got a PlayStation and played Final Fantasy VII that I started playing tons of RPGs though. I think Final Fantasy VII, Xenogears, and Chrono Trigger are still my favorites.

Ultima 6 for me.

I was probably playing it before I could read many of the words, but hey, it was a great RPG to start with.

I tried to play Final Fantasy 7 and Legend of Legaia, but never got far. The first RPG I actually got into was Grandia 2. Still one of only a handful I've completed.

Dragon Warrior 1 on NES. Man, I thought that game was awesome at the time.

Grandia 2, Skies of Arcadia and Record of Lodoss War were the most played games on my Dreamcast. That was a great system for about a year.

hard to remember. It was either Pokemon Silver or Final Fantasy 8.

Kind of amazing how many great games the Dreamcast got in such a small lifespan.

@vfighter: Me too Phantasy Star on the SMS, then Ultima 4 on the SMS.

The latter is basically uncompletable.

The Legend of Zelda on NES.

Fallout 1 in 1997. Followed, of course, by Fallout 2 in 1998.

However, I didn't consistently like them until Divinity II in 2009, though I did play RPGs like Divine Divinity, Beyond Divinity, Morrowind, Oblivion, and Mass Effect up until that point.

Final Fantasy IX

Pokemon yellow :D man, those were good times. until my friend deleted my savegame, and just when my metapod finally evolved into a butterfree

@jun_aka_pekto: I remember Sentinel Worlds 1: Future Magic. I think my first RPG was Wasteland, followed by the First 3 Ultima Games.

@heathen75: wtf they had Record of Lodoss War on the Dreamcast? How'd I miss that? That used to be one of my favorite animes that not too many people know about tbh right up there with The Slayers. Now I have some research to do lol

Probably Pokemon Red/Blue.

Final Fantasy IV aka Final Fantasy II on the SNES.

Zelda for nes, i guess then pokemon. I played text adventures too which was why i could read from an early age (mum and my sis taught me but they helped a lot). modern though was oblivion and fallout 3

Final Fantasy I on the NES was my first introduction to rpg's at my friends house.

First rpg I owned and completed was Phantasy Star II for the Genesis.

Nothing like the classics.

@jackamomo: It's to this day still one of my favorite RPGs. And the dungeons still look awesome. That was my first and only rpg though until FF7 came out on the ps1.

To be honest I never beat Phantasy Star, I think I was close but got lost on what I needed to do and gave up. I might have to break it out and see if my battery back up still works.

@valgaav_219: It was a good game. Took place after the anime I believe. Diablo style hack & slash. I still have my copy. Think I'll pull it out after I finish my Final Fantasy run. I always keep an old system hooked up in the bedroom for late night or early morning gaming.

Pokemon Red and Final Fantasy Adventure

Legend of Legaia. That save must have been hundreds of hours long. Took me years to finish it.

Return to Zork from way back in the 90's. And there was some dinosaur game too that I played a bit. But during those days I wasn't too fond of rpg's. I thought them to be tedious and time-consuming affairs.

If it wasn't for Fallout 3 I'd probably still be in the not-into-rpg's camp.

holy crap, way to set the bar high.

I can't remember in my case. It could be Pokemon Blue, Final Fantasy VII, or Dark Sun: Shattered Lands.
