There's only one way to beat it: it's called "practice" (hint: trying twice doesn't count as real practice either)
You should try Contra 1 or Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts or Mega Man Zero.
I like challenging games and don't mind the ones where you have to memorize patterns. But of course, it's pretty annoying that you can't beat any of the levels on your first try, but it's pretty rewarding when you're finished with all of them.
It's only hard until I throw my controller through the TV. That's it...I'm exiting out and playing Super Mario World. Hell, even Contra 3 would be a paradise vacation from this bullcrap. Your ship moves so slow, too. It moves like the pilot has a 10-ton anvil up his hind end.Dragon_Rebel05
That's why you use the power-ups. The first one should be able to increase your speed by a good margin.
You're calling me stupid. That's flaming. And I've played dozens of games that came out before 1995.Dragon_Rebel05
Now now. Don't put words in other people's mouths. Nobody is calling you stupid. Wanna have an argument? Fine. But don't go around twisting other people's posts.

He said I didn't have a good mind.

He said your mindset was probably different to the one that people that lived through that time use to have. That's quite different.
At any rate, nobody is insulting you here, only acknowledging that these types of games are difficult to grasp if you didn't have any previous experience with them.
Castlevania IV and Turtles In Time aren't ungodly difficult/impossible like this...okay..I'm at a part to where if I manage to dodge every little ship and shot in this close cave, these rock things are flying around. And guess what? When it gets down to the last one or two, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to die because they come at you and they're completely IMPOSSIBLE to dodge because they home in on you. So if you actually manage to get by all that crap, you have a boss that takes like 10 million hits and fires lasers that form diamond shapes you have to squeeze into, and then shoots beams out at about 500 MPH which are hard to dodge. And if you get hit ONCE the entire time, you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN. My God. All they had to do was do like Contra and start you back where you died. I could understand restarting the level if you lost all your ships, but it's like the worst of both worlds put together.Dragon_Rebel05up, up, down, down, L, R, L, R, B, A start. (note it is L, R not 'left' 'right' - one blows you up the other powers you up). I will agree with you that it is VERY hard to get going again in this game. Too bad U.N. Squadron isn't on the VC or I would recommend that to you seeming it 'fixes' some of these interesting design decisions that Konami seems to like. 2nd. They make you start back a little bit so you get the chance to power up a couple of times so you aren't slow anymore.
Perhaps im just a particularily twisted individual but I am quite enjoying this guys romp into the oldschool these past few days. GodModeEnabled
LOL! Same here!
Dragon, hopefully you remember my post in your contra thread. By the time I posted, you had made considerable progress by playing the game more and more. The same thing will happen with this game. Keep at it.

Lolz My prediction is the next game he has problems with is Mega Man 9...
If you were playing the arcade version of Gradius III, then I would agree with you but your not so..... The SNES version is incredibly easy and so is Contra III. You dont need codes for either game. Try to power up in this order and see if it works for you:
Speed, speed, missile, option, option, laser, option, option, sheild. If your not great at dodging bullets then pick up the sheild before you get the laser. Double your speed early to counter the intentional slow down in the SNES version use it to your advantage. ;)
See I don't know how to power up that whole power-up system. I just use whatever power up I get every time I get one. I managed to beat Contra 3 on Normal and make it to the 5th boss on Hard. I can make it to that 5th boss on Normal before using a continue. That boss is the spawn of the devil. You can't hit him because the room is spinning. There's no way to aim at him. The only way I managed to beat him is just get lucky and use the bomb whenever I die and I beat him with 1 or 2 lives left.Dragon_Rebel05You can counter the spinning by holding a spin button yourself... Then you can just aim and shoot.
