I think of Fallout 3 as more of a poor mans Fallout 1 and 2, with everything that made Fallout great removed and made by people who didn't pay attention to or understand the lore of the past two games. New Vegas fixed a lot of those problems but was still inferior to the old games, the entire game is just 1/3 of what Black Isle's original (and almost completed before the company closed) Fallout 3 was going to be.
I want it to be back as a strategy game with all of its features brought back and I want Bethesda to stay the **** away, they don't need to be dumbing down any more games for todays Gears of War obsessed console market or using their horrible engine in anything.

Comparing Fallout 3 with Fallout 1 and 2 is just like comparing Space Invaders with COD.
They need to take a LOT more time and pay more attention to detail on the next fallout game hopefully they dont just shov it out theirital91engine? It will continue with Interplays MMO and since beth have a 'new engine' with a game due to utilize this next year, I wouldnt be surprised if we see another one this gen.

Comparing Fallout 2 to Fallout 3 is like comparing a cult classic movie, to a new action flick with explosions.

Exactly my point. A brilliant old classic with modern.
It seems that it is best to judge Fallout 3 and NV on their own level, and not against Fallout 1 and 2.
Because the differences are so vast, it is likely that we are just comparing apples to oranges.
I completely understand the reasoning behind why people are so negative to Fallout 3/New Vegas, being compared to Fallout 1 and 2. Personally, my first Fallout game was Fallout 3. Not because i am a "youngster" and simply was not into gaming back then, but because i never actually got to play them (never had the time to be honest with school and all).
Having played Fallout 3, i instantly felt like this game is absolutely phenomenal. I played the heck out of it (as a matter of fact i am playing right now, on a 765th playthrough or whatever:D) and so i decided to check out the old Fallout games. I purchased them and played them on my laptop. What i figured out right after i finished them is that Fallout 3 has very little compared to the original Fallout series. It felt more of a spin-off. Now, one thing is certain though - gamers should be more understanding of where the gaming industy is going - yeah, i would have loved for Fallout 3 to be more strategic or more like the first two games, but this is not the way to go forward (in a business way). Yes, i am unhappy, but does the developer care? They are porting more and more games to consoles, making them more accessible to all kinds of gaming groups. Now, can you argue with that? No, because it is natural for a developer to be wanting to get more worth for their efforts. Making a game accessible to more people will bring more revenue. Do i like it? No...Do i accept it as a natural aspect of the gaming future? Yes. As should you...Would it surprise me to see Diablo 3 on a console? Absolutely not...You get my point...
Now back to the Fallout series (one of top two favorite of mine)...
I really hope and i also believe that we will see more Fallout games in the future. The series is not dead, there are lots of room of imporvement (the engine being one and most important). I also will support Bethesda Softworks to be involved or at least will support their model of the Fallout franchise - open-world, lots of places to loot, side quests, uniques weapons to find, mods (Obsidian), reputations system(Obsidian) and all other goodies. If done right, a new Bethesda/Obsidian/Another Dev Fallout installment will be another 1000 hours invested in a quality and enjoyable experience.

Agreed all fallouts are very enjoyable and each of them is a wonderful adventure with their own merits, one can't help saying A is worse than B so I believe its best to enjoy every one of them as a single game and stop comparing them as sequels.
One thing that I truly disliked about F3 was that it was soooo softcore, would love to get it before the censure hammer struck down and play it as it should be.
