Im try to find out what Game Features does everyone think a FPS should or even shouldnt have?

Online splitscreen, assuming it's an online FPS. Other than that, I don't know....shooting?firedonutOnline splitscreen? Online? What for?
All console first-person shooters should have a quick-turn mechanic. Something like where you click both sticks down, and then your character busts a perfect 180.

I mean the ability to have multiple players on the same system, just in case you have roomates who hate watching you play Call of Duty 4 online because they can't jump in and die alot with you. :)

Ooooooohhh! Duh, alright. It's like doing player matches on Gears and having a friend on with you on the same TV. My bad, I could have sworn you meant it in the other way, like playing Gears online co-op (two-players), and for some inexplicable reason, having it be split-screen.I'd also like to see a more realistic system for injuries. I mean, you can get shot all up in most games and still operate at full performance.
I'd like to see a game where, if you get shot in the leg, you're gonna be limping along. You know, that sort of thing, where the injuries actually affect the way you play, rather than just taking off hit points.
- An SDK or some form of mod making toolkit.
- Some way to interact with various objects in the environment....even if it's through a simple "use" key.
- An actual physics engine.
- AI that actually lives in the game world rather then just stands there waiting for the player to show up.
- Enemy AI that can present some form of challenge and at least seem realistic....friendly AI that actually assist the player, or at least give the illusion they are assisting the player without getting in the player's way.
- These days, a non-linear environment, or at least the perception the player is dealing with a non-linear environment. In other words, at least some form of freedom with the environment.
- Localized body damage and various AI reactions.....it would seem really ridiculous if you shot an enemy in the foot and they died the same way as if you shot them in the head.
- A secondary ability for almost every weapon in the game, or at least the ones the player will be using the most.
- The ability to issue orders, even if they are simple, to friendly NPCs if there are going to be any with you in the game.
- The ability to look down the Iron sight.
- The player actually having a body and legs that they can see if they look down.
- Weapons that can be customized or at least fitted with items to enhance or alter their ability.
If we're talking about online console fps (pc maybe too), I finally want to see some good matchmaking. I've had it with cross atlantic games (why have latency if another 50k players are playing on your continent), unbalanced matchups (facing a clan, teammate confessing that it's his first online game) and not being able to join friends, and team up against another team.
It's now been more than 3 years since halo 2 launched with a great online setup where you consistently got matched up with equally skilled players/ teams(if you joined in a team too) with good connection, and before cheating became rampant, you were sure to have great games online. Now with games like gears of war, rainbow six vegas, cod4 etc. I consistently get bad matchups, making for a lot of irritation, and not a lot of fun. Of course you can still have fun with those games, but it would have been so much better with a good online setup.
You could argue that you find it more important to choose your map to play on, but I find that if there aren't too many awful maps and there's a veto option, almost every game is great if played with the right players and connection. A laggin game, or game with unbalanced teams on a great map will still make for a lousy game. I just really want some more fps devs to start implementing matchmaking and parties like bungie, because I like the gameplay of some other games better.
P.S. IW tried the matchmaking system of course, but because players are too spread out across playlists, and are busy playing more games in a row, the game can't match up the right players because there's too few of them playing. Again, I'd like IW to at least take a look at what bungie is doing all the time to prevent this.
bots for offline splitscreen, thank god for the TimeSplitters series
online splitscreen ( im lookin at you CoD4  )
Bots if it has a multiplayer component is another thing that every FPS game should have these days....too few games allow the user to either fill up a game or play against bots.
One of the reasons I enjoyed UT2004 so much when it released, and still do, is because it had among the best bot AI out there. CS: S too.
This applies to console FPSs, map the jump button to the shoulder buttons, reload to one of the analog stick buttons, and a 'quick weapon select' (see pic) to one of the analog stick buttons (I'd also like to see this on PC fps's, letting go of your hand to press 9 for a weapon is pretty annoying, espeacially when you accidently press 8, though the mouse wheel is fast.
feet. its kinda weird to look down and see nothing bout the ground. like wheres me leg ya?FreshDimSumYeah, that is something I want to see in more games. It does feel a little stupid when you look down and only see the ground.
Universal controls for console FPSes. I don't want to take away a developer's right to decide just how we should play its game in the optimal way, but wouldn't it be nice if every game had a "Universal" controller layout option in the settings? At least for the basics, shooting/grenades/crouching.
I'm always extremely disoriented when I go from Bad Company 2 to Borderlands...
Crosshairs should be replaced by iron sights - press a certain button, and your character brings the gun close to his eye, and then the small area where you're aiming is zoomed in a bit, while the area around blurs.
Viewing through a sniper rifle's scope shouldn't make everything around you black. It should be blurred.
The ability to see your feet (Alien vs. Predator does this well) and yourself (when viewing a mirror or glasses).
Wow, I dont even remember making this post but I'm glad you all have answered with some extremely good ideas... Keep em coming, most of these should be looked at by some of the leading studios these days!cs_mp
Nah, threads like this shouldn't be bumped. Once they die, they should stay dead. If you want to open another thread presenting the same line of discussion, that would be ok.
