I think surprise is a key element in enjoying a game - and games - lets be honest - are not too surprising in terms of narrative & gameplay - through playing a lot games you begin to see many patterns -

after seeing a few previews you begin to see what it's all about - thusdiminishing the experience of opening the game - installing it & playing without any information to it can be far more enjoyable

so I'm not gonna watch any more previews any more - they spoil it for me

hows about you ?

No, I like reading previews. They are especially crucial to learning about gameplay mechanics and improvements (for instance, ACII previews were very clear on the ways the developers had improved over the flawed original).

I don't bother to read or watchthe previews. But I definately read and watch the reviews. But if you open a gaming magazine, you will find the preview section generally given as much space if not more than the review section (so there is definately demand for previews). I think people like to watch the previews since it is easier to anticipate a game in a positive light while reading a preview than reading a critical review. They can look forward to the game with joy since the game is not out yet and there is nothing negative to focus on (the game could turn out to be fantastic or poor - it could be anything). That can be kind of fun. While a review points out the positive AND negative aspects of the game. With the negative pointed out it is not as easy to get that excited anticipation. It is like anticipating Christmas morning as a kid. Looking forward to that day was asexciting as playing with your new toys after you open them in a way. Personally I just focus on what is out already, and I don't worry about what is coming. I'll put my attention on it after it is released. Not trying to say that is better, it is only my preference.

The reason for previews is so you know what to look forward to. If you were going into your local GameStop or other game retailer, would you rather pick a game you know nothing about or something you've seen before that looks good?

yeah it's a good point - er, well maybe a sequel to a game series you love

like Hitman 5 or Mafia 2 - I'll buy it no matter the review simply for the previous games quality

Much like movie previews, game previews give me a small taste of what is to come. Just enough to make me want the game, and that is exactly what a preview should do.

This is why I have stayed away from all of the mass effect 2 previews. I have looked a few times to try to see the things that have improved but I'm afraid I'll read some story into and that's pretty much what an RPG is all about to me. I don't want to spoil ANY of it for myself.

thats fine for games in a well established franchise (or possibly from a very good developer). however, previews are crucial for new games that dont have such past history to speak for them.

I feel that exact same way. Too many previews for Mass Effect 2 that spoil.

Most of time Previews contain EXCESS amount of info or footage, which is why they have a spoiling effect. but OP, i know what ur going thru, i stopped watching previews b/c I want to be surpised, fully surprised.

I dont even watch video reviews anymore for the same reason. I just go by metacrtic scores

i am more video review fan but like to read too, since the games are not cheap the review is an important part, becasue it tells u how the game is
