I just can't get over how good the Ridge Racer Type 4 soundtrack is so I wanted to post it.
Can you think of a good soundtrack you'd like to share?
Please can you limit to one embedded soundtrack or the page slows down too much.
The most memorable game soundtracks for me are:
DuckTales (NES)
Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
Ocarina of Time (N64)
Crazy Taxi (Dreamcast)
GTA: Vice City (PS2)
Some of my favourite game soundtracks are from:
- the Blazblue fighting games
- King of Fighters ‘95 and ‘96
- Sparkster
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Arcade Game and Turtles in Time
- Mega Man 2 and X
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Super Castlevania IV
- Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
@storm_of_swords: You can't have Crazy Taxi because it's licenced and The Offspring, whilst a good band objectively, is still ska-punk and as such should be shunned in the harshest terms and confined ONLY to Crazy Taxi.
PS. Anyone mentioning The Witcher 3 on my threads will be banned.
Thank you.
Homeworld: Adagio for Strings, Turanic Raiders, Swarmer Battle Music (takes a couple minutes...) as a couple examples.
DOOM (2016) had a pretty cool industrial-metal-techno soundtrack, good for what you were playing, at least.
Civilization 6 has a pretty incredible soundtrack as well, using actual symphonies, musicians, and instruments instead of doing it all or mostly electronically.
Also, surprisingly, the 4X sci-fi game Stellaris has a fantastic score as well. That first song (Stellaris Suite) really seems like it could have been the closing theme to a Bruce Nolan Batman movie haha
And of course, I would be remiss to not mention Brigador. That soundtrack slams. It really goes for that retro-80's-synthesizer thing that became really popular a few years ago.
Also, it's more of a soundscape-meets-music kind of deal but I think Hyper Light Drifter has some great audio to it. Soft, eerie, interesting, but in the background so it is more immersive.
Oh, and we can't forget about Bastion and the great Transistor, can we!? Man those games almost seemed built around their audio tracks. Ashley Lynn Barrett lends her vocals to the games and she has a great voice.
I would now like to change my favourite soundtrack to be The Witcher 3. It’s the greatest of all time.

I'm not saying that I like the music outside of Crazy Taxi. I'm not a big punk fan and would not normally listen to that type of music, but the music is an absolutely perfect fit for that game. That music and that game were made for each other. If you take that music out of the game like they did for the PS3 and Xbox 360 ports, the game loses it's soul and becomes much less fun to play. Anytime that I fire up the original Crazy Taxi and hear the "Ya Ya Ya Ya Ya" to kick off the soundtrack, I get a happy feeling.

Stunning, and the crescendos are simply amazing. Can't wait for Ori 2.

@Archangel3371@nomadic8280@Vaasman: Your all barred. ;)
You know what I love about the OST to Witcher 3? How it really takes me back to the world of Witcher 3. I really feel like I'm there with Yen, Triss, Zoltan and all those great Witcher 3 characters.

Apparently this tune is based off an old Scottish song, not sure why it didn't make it on the OST album but this is my favorite tune for my favorite world in the game.
Oh! I saw Ori and the blind forest theme two posts up. I love that soundtrack!
- Assassin's Creed Rouge
- Borderlands 1
- Journey
- Botanicula
For me when I'm playing a game the soundtrack is as important as the graphics and story, With a bad soundtrack the gameplay will not feel "fun" (of course I could always disable the music but then it feels like it is missing something)
My favourite game tracks
- Contra III: The Alien Wars
- Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
- Super Castlevania IV
- Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross
Twin Cobra for Sega Genesis and Fujitsu FM Towns
Mortal Kombat II for Sega Genesis / 32X
Zero Wing for Sega Genesis
