Final Fantasy Tactics, Star Ocean: The Second Story, and Rivieria: The Promised Land have to be some of my favorites, but good music keeps on coming out. The Touhou 8 : Impershible Night has a pretty fantastic sound track too.
when i look back at innovative video game scores, i guess what comes to mind is the old zelda games. and to keep this thread from being locked, ill elaborate a little bit. the main gameplay mechanic of zelda is adventure, and the overworld theme really compliments that with a sweeping melody and march-like pace. its a formula that has translated over to a lot of games that feature exploration as a main mechanic.
Street Fighter 2. Tekken 2. Tekken 3's alright. Ninja Gaiden 3 and Ninja Gaiden Black. Shinobi 3 and the PS2 version. Sonic 2 and Sonic and Knuckles. All the music has an important factor: The music goes well with the action but the sound of effects, too.
Castlevania IV on the snes, the theme of simon belmont is one of my fav game soundtracks, and Killer Instinct on the snes also had a great soundtrack, the cd came with the game at the time :P
Alot of games have good music but the Halo games are my favorite.The legend of Zelda games are memorable,from recent games all the way back to the original and another oldie I remember is Donkey Kong Country.
Couldn't agree more. Also, Mortal Kombat's infamous theme tune (though I don't think it was actually used in any of the games), Lara croft's theme from the original Tomb Raider, Streets Of Rage, Sonic The Hedgehog (1 and 2), and my personal favorite: F-Zero.
No love for the Katamari series yet? I love those songs, I've probably spent as much time listening to the game's music on my iPod than I did actually playing it.
Persona 3 and Persona 4 had some great tunes too. The bonus soundtrack CD was a nice touch :)
Suikoden for the Ps1. It's one of my favourite games to play, even to this day. The combat is primitive, but fun, and there is so much to do in the game that it feels new almost every time. I've played it since I was a toddler, and I still love the music that comes with it. It's worth a listen on Youtube if you can find it.
I'll give a shout out to The Last Remnant and A Boy and His Blob. Both have great soundtracks and they're both games that most people haven't even played. Seems impossible to find the full soundtrack to A Boy and His Blob anywhere. Shame.

Well, I can't do it as well as he does. Que Sera Sera is my favorite. Its a good cd, I was pleasantly surprised when I got it. Haven't gotten any of the other Katamari sound tracks, though.
