I noticed that most people replying on this thread fall in certain categories:
1. don't care and say they have always been expensive
2. Games are very expensive and should be lowered in price
3 In between
First of all the guy who made this thread is right, prices are too high and if you are a "real" gamer then you know that gaming has always been expensive but not to this degree. When gameboy color came out it $100 and other consoles at that time were of similiar price, there has never been a system with an original cost of $600. Try asking your cheap grandmas to buy it and see what happens, nothing. 100 was managable, recent pricesr not. try renting

Nope, you're wrong.
The 3DO was $700 when it first came out, which was a hundred bucks more than the PS3's original launch price.
The NeoGeo's launch price was $650, which would make it more than twice the price of the PSP Go.
Let's not also forget the Sega Saturn, which, at the time of its release, was $400, which puts it right on par with the X360 Elite's initial pricing.
How soon do some people forget.
So Blade - are u saying that gaming has become cheaper? what's the wrong u're referring to? As i mentioned, just about every other technology has become cheaper - except games. I really dont remember at all what an NES game cost back when I was a kid - seems like atleast $40 bucks. I know my folks lost thier mind when i wanted a new game. To respond to your comment - consoles are sorta yes and no - PS3-$600 on release, cheaper now, 360-$300 on release, cheaper now, Wii same....
The games though..U'd think, with computer technology getting better and cheaper for the past few years - the games would be a liiiiiittle cheaper to make. Maybe a bit more time spent on making a good game - but they're not necassarily utilizing all the latest and greatest technologies.--For example-only a handful of optimized dual-core games even exist..He's wrong on 2 counts:
1) That "gaming has always been expensive, but not to this degree" (he makes it sound as if prices today are a lot higher compared to before, which is for the most part, untrue)
2) "There has never been a system with an original cost of $600" (not true, both the 3DO and the NeoGeo surpass the PS3 pricewise)
And yes, when you take inflation into account, gaming is actually a lot cheaper compared to before. This is especially true when you consider the amount of features, better gameplay, superior production values, and such that go into the finished product. Yes, there have been a select number of NES titles that were $40, but most of the time they were either too short or were incredibly lacking as far as effort was concerned.
