For me, it would be Final Fantasy XII. Oh man. How I loathe this game. I don't want to offend any fans but I could not stand the battle system and perhaps its just me because everyone and everyone's dog seems to love the game.

*flame shields ready* I downloaded MegaMan 9 recently, no matter how HARD I try, I can't beat ANY of the stages besides Galaxy Man. It makes playing E.T on the Atari look like a friggin cake walk.
There are several games which seemed the greatest thing ever when I played them as a kid, and now when I play them again I can't seem to see what the fuss was all about. This happened with Pokemon. I love the first season, and loved the rpg as a kid, but now I find it a little tedious. Maybe I just can't stand grinding anymore...takes too much time, something I had in abundance as a kid.
Final Fantasy IV is an awful game. It chooses your party members for you. You can't change their abilities. You can't decide which magic spells you want them to learn. You can't affect the way their stats increase when they level up. About the only thing you can do is control them in battles, which happen way too often and typically require little skill or strategy beyond "push X until all the monsters are dead".
And yet everyone seems to think it's the best game of all time. I just don't get it.

A lot of people hate this game.
I liked it, although I hated it the first time I tried playing it.
Yes!Halo is I believe one of the most overrated games ever.I'm not saying it sucks or anything, but its not the perfect game many believe it is.Its still a good game, adddicting too,but it has its flaws.
I have to say HALO. I don't get the hype. It's the same as over 100 other FPS games out there. And I would have to agree with Nate, w/ final fantasy. I hate the series, except when it first came out for the NES and Gameboy. 1 & 2 were good.
i got a big list but 80% are newer games so ill say the 20%. killzone, half life, almost every fps that either doesnt play like time splitters or dark and gritty without a palette of bright colors. rpgs i dont hate as much because of color. about a 3rd of final fantasys, that was 20% of my list
any game that says "final fantasy" in title pretty much. First off , they are never the FINAL one. it should be "the never ending fantasy"! and Halo. I'm not a big fan of Halo whatsoever. I like Red vs blue, and I liked playing Halo1 on splitscreen back in the day....some.
I never was very keen on the GTA series to be honest. I only own Gta 3 and Vice City. I have played the first two on the PS1 as well..I think they are OK games but not anything great. Maybe it's the vibe and feel of the games, I just couldn't fall in love with them like a lot of people could.
I think FF battle systems. for the most part, are absolutely unchallenging except for certain boss fights. Most of them are hit, heal, hit, heal. I don't know WHAT the deal with FF is. But like someone said, I'm certainly missing something out because everyone seems to like the games.
Halo, GTA games, Dark Cloud, and Morrowind are the games that immediately come to mind when I read the subject.
[QUOTE="strategik_basic"]Dark Cloud? Really? Care to explain?Halo, GTA games, Dark Cloud, and Morrowind are the games that immediately come to mind when I read the subject.

The building of the towns was clunky to me and the game did not hold my interest, played it for about 8 hours and never picked it up again. Although I did like Dark Cloud 2 and also Rogue Galaxy.
It's really bad given the amount of them the new gen pump out but yeah I think Time Splitters was one of the best FPS's ever.i got a big list but 80% are newer games so ill say the 20%. killzone, half life, almost every fps that either doesnt play like time splitters or dark and gritty without a palette of bright colors. rpgs i dont hate as much because of color. about a 3rd of final fantasys, that was 20% of my list

This is a perfect thread to see how people are really different. apart from us one trick pony's, you can really see some games are more based on taste than one could think.
I have no idea how you could dislike epic games like Morrowind or KoToR. Even if you don't like RPG's KoToR should be awesome!
if your wondering... i hate morrowind because of my cousin.. he would play it soooo much wile i wanted to actually do something..lolThis is a perfect thread to see how people are really different. apart from us one trick pony's, you can really see some games are more based on taste than one could think.

There are several games that I don't like that much, that other people have loved, such as the 3D GTAs, especially GTAIV (got old extremely fast), KotOR 1&2 (boring combat system), Mass Effect 1, Super Mario RPG (this one just bored me to death, stupid SquareEnix) but I don't hate any of them. There are just lots of other games I'd rather play.
FFX, I was a FF fanboy before this game. I know people complain about this newest FF game, about how linear it is but I won't even consider playing it. FFX was bad enough. The grid thing was so lame, the story was more boring and the speed in which it was told was one of the most painful experiences in my life and I have gun wounds and have had kidney stones.
I have a couple and all of them are hyped by the media. MGS4 (for a story driven game, I find this MGS's story extremely lack luster, convoluted and childish beyond belief). I also feel that the gfx are WAY TOO overhyped. The GTA series is another one that ONLY seems to draw in the fanbase and sales because of it's over the top violence and swearing. I honestly find the game an insult to society and VERY weak on actual game play. There's a reason that GTA4's online aspect is virtually dead now. NedemisI just like the sandbox element to the GTA games. I hardly get far into the storylines because it's just too much fun to run around the city exploring, or causing havoc, or jumping bikes, or whatever. The sheer size of the GTA games are amazing. -Nate-
HOW DARE YOU! jk lol. I actually dont like Super Metroid that much, I think its because of the stiff controls that I dont like it as much as Zero mission or Fusion. Also, I didnt play it until it came out on the Wii VC. Other games are DKC and Super Mario RPG.... flame shields activate ... I can't stand ... metroid prime ...

i want to add that Yuna and Tidus were the most annoying characters ever , and the plot was very predictable, but i have to disagree with you on the grid system it was fun although it can get frustrating if you advance far enough in the system.
for some weird reason i liked that game when i played it as a kid like 7 years ago and finished it 3 times, now i played it until i reached gagazit mountains and i just cant go further , maybe because i played FF8,9 right before it.
and yeah Halo is the most overrated thing (yes i said "thing" because nothing was hyped like that game ever) in the history of existence , nothing was ever hyped like Halo3 , i just cant see the big deal in that game , it is like any other shooter, you go collect a weapon shoot run and shoot, nothing special when it comes to sci-fi shooters , time splitters is the best.
Final Fantasy 7.I got that game when it was new and kept playing it and reminding myself that everyone said how awesome the game was and that everyone was playing it... but I just could not understand what's so amazing about it! The graphics were terrible and I didn't like the music. The story didn't seem that great to me either, what's the big deal?
*runs and hides*
If you like the idea of sneaking around, infiltrating bases, and military espionage, then this is the game for you. If your not into that kind of thing, steer clear. The game is also very story-heavy. So if you want an indepth, layered story, with plenty of dialogue and cutscenes, you won't be disappointed. However if you are a gamer that likes to get right into the action, then this isn't for you. Patience is also a virtue you must posess in order to enjoy this game. For me it was epic the first time I played through Metal Gear Solid and MGS 2. But at the same time it was also one of those games that once I played it, I didn't want to play it again. -Nate-I've never played any MGS before and I was wondering if you guys could give me some ideas as to what sort of a game it might turn out to be, before I try it.

Max Payne, Mass Effect (Im going to try 2, to see if they fixed it a bit though), Final Fantasy (Though Im starting to get into it, it was more afraid of committing time to such a huge game! Ive played 10 which was okay 10-2 or 12? which was crap and im getting 13 and just got 7), WoW (same thing as FF).
Too lazy to read every post and see if these have been mentioned already.
My list would be Halo, Final Fantasy, God of War, Grand Theft Auto (only had fun with it when I used mods), Resident Evil, Guitar Hero, and tons of others.
Well...*takes out big, biiiigflame shield*
-Shadow Of The Colossus
-Half-Life 2
-Left 4 Dead
-All the Street Fighter games
-Okami
-Patapon
-Star Wars:Knights Of The Old Republic(Which confuses me, since I love all the other Bioware games I've played and RPGs in general)
-Halo
-CoD Modern Warfare series
-Starcraft
-Guitar Hero 3
I think I just set myself up for death. XD
