Just hear me out before anyone goes into their flame mode. Ok. Remember the 90s? We had a ton of GOOD GAMES, proven by the fact that they got 9.5 ratings or higher.

These are just a few of the games that stood out at the time and deserve to be in the video game hall of fame, if there ever was one. ( I will list them later) But my main point is....there have not been any GREAT games in the past 10 years.

Now don't misunderstand me, there have been plenty of OK games or good games, but if you want to go by the AVERAGE ranking of the industry, there has been nothing in the past decade that would make me go.......WOW!!!!!!!

Here are the games that make me go WOW, and that I promised I would list. Goldeneye 007 Legend of Zelda ocarina of time Soul Caliber metal Gear Solid The only game that really comes the closest this decade is RE4.

But...my question to you game buffs is.....Do you agree with what I'm saying, or not??? If not, why don't you agree with me? And if you agree with me, what are some of the things game developers can do so that we can get back to the best standards we can get back to??? What are some of your suggestions??? I would just like to say I am really looking forward to your responses.

You got bit by the nonastalgia bug. Let's Review

Dues Ex

Cave Story

MGS2/MGS3

Super Mario Galaxy

KOTOR

Resi 4

All of these are amazingly good games, and there are so much more. No good games in 10 years? An idiotic statement.

Yes friend thank you for responding!!!!

First of all, yes, I have the nostalgia bug bitting me up the behind!!!! Damn straight. Did you find the cure yet?? (I'm just kidding ofcourse)

But....Secondly.....I already said RE4 reached that status of wowing me this decade, pretty much the only game of this decade that was a WOW factor for me.

Alright, and third, I never said there aren't good games this decade, as that would be an idiotic statement indeed. I just said there are no games that can compete pound for pound with the great games of the 90s. There were games that reached 9.5 and higher back then (I forgot to mention Soul Caliber). Sure, the games you mentioned are good or very good, but my beef is, its not reaching the high level of 9.5 or higher.

And sorry, I don't think Super Mario Galaxy just does it for me.

You let an arbitrary number system rule you. Judging everything solely by what the critics say is...archaic perhaps? Certainly not the optimum way of going about things. Cave story is held by popular consensus to be the best free to play game ever made, and dues ex the best FPS. The 90's were the time for fighters and PC adventures, the dominant theme for this decade is the FPS. Though, we should probably referring to it as the last decade, it's over now...

It's strange you find no good games, yet Soul Callibur makes your list and is nothing but an advancement to Soul Blade/Edge. Anyway, though I agree that there aren't a slew of superb games coming out, like the olden days, there's still the occasional masterpiece scattered across an entire decade I'm sure. BioWare games ICO Star Ocean: TTEOT Dark Chronicle (or Cloud) FFX SSBM Tales Of Symphonia Fable etc, etc.

I guess your right. I am letting an arbitrary judgment rule me. :( I am so pathetic!!!! (Not being sarcastic by any means) I did play Deus Ex, t'was very very good. But your definitely right that the last decade is over now. Hmmm, you just solved a good portion of my gaming innuendos there friend. I want to thank you for the effort you put in. Maybe I need to move on. Now just one thing I want to say is, even though the 90s were known to be a PC primary time, I was personally always a console fanatic. I played Goldeneye 007, which was the halo of its time. Yes also fighters were very very popular. Okay, can't help but feel this empty feeling inside now towards gaming. Heh....:(

I don't care about ratings myself. To each their own but all of my top 10 games ever are from this decade.

Really? Huh? Is this for real?

You are on a website about video games, and you can't think of games that have been good for the last 10 years? Why are you still here? What sort of fantasy land do you live in where you are way more stoked about Goldeneye than Halo: Reach among other things? I'm done at this point, because it's hard to believe this stuff.

Maybe a bad example. I for one would play Goldeneye right now but I wouldn't touch Reach unless it was free.

I'm here and I also prefer games prior to the year 2000. Different people, different tastes, sir. I find Halo to be highly overrated.

Well I would most certainly disagree with that notion. I find that the number of great games that come out these days is staggering. There is no way I can keep up with everything that I would like to get/play. That's ok though because I'd rather have the opportunity to choose.

It seems you skipped the last decade. if none of those games WOWed you then you need to skip this decade, and the decade after. Gaming isnt for you.

I think the games of today are just as good, if not better, than the games of the 90s. It's been cool to see games evolve in innovation and immersion. I'm enjoying games today just as much as I did in the 90s.

Good sir, did you bother reading my post? Why do you keep saying that I have not found any games to be good in the past 10 years??? What I was talking about was the 9.5 or higher factor type games. Besides Mario Galaxy, they don't exist in this decade (Past Decade I mean the 2000s). I suppose we are in a new decade now. Maybe that will be some good news for me. I don't know.

I just noticed that all of the game's the TC mentioned are from the latter years of the 90s....hardly the whole decade. Not saying that means anything, but it's just sort of interesting to note.

Game's are awesome today. Games were awesome yesterday. But you were younger then. Hence, nostalgia.

What irritates me though is that the games TC mentioned aren't even a proper cross-section of the previous decade. They're all from the late 90s. That tells me that he's not really comparing games now to games of the previous decade....but rather to games from a very specific point of his childhood. In other words, this is pure rose-tinted nostalgia.

I'll take this guy's list and I'd like to add

Fallout 3 + Morrowind and Oblivion

Persona 4

Dwarf Fortress (Nothing has reached the level of complexity this game has. Mindblowing)

God Hand

Okami

Beyond Good & Evil

Silent Hill 2 & 3

Fatal Frame series

Freedom Fighters

Jak II & 3

Metal Gear Solid series after first

Nostalgia is great and all. It can be fun to think back to the glory days of your childhood, but you have to remember that just because they make you feel nostalgic does not immediately make them better games. You need to break out of that mindset because you're missing out on some of the best gaming experiences the medium has to offer.

i only like mario games and games which i grew up with not games that were originally released from 2002 onward exceptions: wii games
