This topic is about games that affected you in some way; and it can be any game. Like, did they change your perspective on things, move you emotionally or things like that.

For me, I'd have to say the trio of Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask and Wind waker moved me alot; each story was intensley emotional, and the game worlds pulled me in unlike any game before or since. They impacted me alot growing up, and I still play them to this day.

What games had some sort of effect on you, and why?

For me games are pure entertainment. The only thing they can do is make me say, "omg epic story". Getting intensley emotional over a game goes a bit far for my taste.

crimsonman, I think you're missing the point of the topic.

Anyway, I don't think any game has ever made me rethink the world. The closest I've ever been to something like that was when I played The World Ends With You (still haven't beat it, though) and how it shows that so many people are just puppets.

I love the games that can "get to you", besides the fun of playing them.

I have many games like that, like TWEWY, Zelda Wind Waker, Yoshi's Story, Pokémon Blue, Super Smash Bros.

Never has that happened to me. I've been playing games for decades, and sure there's been some great and emotional stories, but never has a game changed my perspective on life in obvious ways.

MGS3, God Came From The Cave, and Xenosaga series are the only games to have a lasting effect on me. That was a long time ago, though, so I'm not sure if I'm still open to being changed by a game.

The emotional attachment to Shepard has left me thinking "He can't die!" at the respective climaxes of ME1 and 2.

I love the mention of a bunch of Nintendo titles in this topic -- I find it rather "cute".

Shadow Of The Colossus had a big emotional impact on me -- because it was a subtle one, that slowly materialized. What this boy was willing to do for someone he loved -- a story told and felt sodeeply with almost no dialogue.

Metal Gear Solid 4 also had some really epic emotional moments near the end, quite masterfully done if I say so myself.

You mean had an emotional impact on me or affected my outlook on the world? Because if its the latter then no game or even movie has had that effect on me.

If it's the former then quite a few games have gripped my emotionally. MGS4's return to shadow moses and a couple of scenes in chapter 5 were truly inspiring. Shadow of the Colossus' ending and that one scene in Ico has stayed with me since i first played it.

I suppose the one scene that I had the most trouble with was the end of The Boss' fight in MGS3. Without going into too many spoilers, I just couldn't do it. I stood there for quite sometime hoping to get out of it, but then I had to do it. It also made the ending all the more tragic.

The top 3 games that come to mind right away, are Street Fighter 2 (SNES), Ocarina of Time, and Starfox 64. Needless to say, OoT will always be my favorite game of all time. I probably spent more time on Street Fighter 2 than any game I've ever played. I've poured countless hours into it as a kid. Ironically, I cannot stand fighting games nowadays. Things change. Starfox 64 was memorable because N64 introduced the rumble pack.. and the game itself was just so damn cool. My dad, who rarely surprises me with anything, bought it after a long hard day at work (construction worker at the time), and just really surprised me with it. I was so gosh darn happy. :P

Oh. In that case then, I don't think a game finale has felt as satisfying and made me smile and reminisce quite as much as Portal 2. The first game I can remember feeling a sense of satisfaction from was Lemonade Stand for the commodore 64. It made me feel like a financial genius, though it was pretty simple.

QFT.

I remember being incredulous that the game actually asked that of me.

The MGS games in general. i can't exactly say what it was, but i know there's something in the story in each of the games that i really like.

but about the action, in MGS3, if you play the title screen in slowmo, Snake's CQC demonstration turns practically into an instructional video...seriously, i learned a self-defense technique in my taekwondo class pretty similar to one

I don't know about affected me personally, but there was quite a few tear-wrenching scenes in Poplocrois. Secret of Mana was the first time I ever felt some sort of emotional attachment with characters. The ending pissed me off to no end. I don't normally care that much when a character dies, but that SoM was really unexpected, as was Poplocrois.

No, not even close.

I forget about games the moment I stop playing them. Many movies and books have stuck with me, some to a greater degree than others (Saving Private Ryan was difficult to shake for a few days), but games to me aren't even in the same league. There is one game, PoP: The Sands of Time where I felt a bit of sadness at the ending, but even it is nothing when compared to what a book or movie can provide.

I've never had a game affect me in any deep way. At least, not on the level that a few movies and some music has. But I'm fully open to it and try as hard as I can to get emotionally involved in them, but they just don't reach that level yet for me.

The one that has come the closest would be Planescape: Torment.

I haven't played WW or TP. But:

  • WoW
  • OoT
  • MM
  • NIER
  • Braid

Even though I've given perfect scores to vanilla World of Warcaft, OoT & MM, WoW is the game that really affected me the most.

The early Resident Evil and Tomb Raider series are ones that I will have to mention. They have a unique, constantly creepy feeling like no other game to come before or after it. Even to this day I feel constantly tense/creeped out just from moving around in those worlds, even if I know there aren't any enemies/zombies around. So yeah, they creeped me out a big deal, especially when zombies come crashing through the wall on RE, or when Mr. X corners you one of the many times :P. Tomb Raider is similar to this... any of the enemies you encounter just creep you out, even the muscley guys with the baseball bats :P. Red Dead Redemption actually managed to make me feel a bit depressed for days on end Those are perhaps the main ones :).

There have been quite a few games that have changed my life

1. The Metal Gear series-I am actually pretty new to the Metal Gear franchise, I beat all of the games last year and am currently working on Peace Walker. The Metal Gear Solid franchise gave me a different perspective on nuclear detterents and the psycological effects of war.

2.Tales of Symphonia-I very much enjoyed its take on racism in society and how it could lead its victims to a self destructive path.

3.Bioshock-I love philosphy so Bioshock was quite a treat. I love the bits of Ayn Rayn and Altruism.

Deep Games

1.9 Hours 9 Persons 9 Doors (nintendo ds)- this is simply deep and a must play for those who love plot/story

2.Any Metal Gear Solid game- Deep because of its interesting anti war statements

3.Bioshock (360/ps3/pc)- Deep because of Andrew Ryan and various philosophies

4.Persona 3 (Ps2)- Deep because of the look at the human condition

5.The Witcher (PC)- Deep because of its morally ambiguous choices
