We all go through video games as if they were tissue paper in cold season, but there's alwayss those special games along the way that changed you or remain important to you to this day. What are those games and why did they have such a strong effect on you?

Donkey Kong (Intelevision)

-My very first video game

Pokemon Gold (Gameboy)

-My very first video game addiction

Super Mario 64 (N64)

-My first foray into the third dimension

Pikmin (Gamecube)

-rekindled my love for video games. It affirmed that something completely original and completely brilliant could still be produced in the industry

Super Mario Bro. 3 was one of the first games I played and still one of my favourites of all time.

Pokemon Red was my first handheld game I ever played. Hundreds of hours of my life were spent on this one.

Burnout 3 made me go out and buy a PS2. And I never looked back.

Grandia
Final Fantasy VIII

The two I can think of right of my head and the most important ones for me.

I'll add some more later, but it's already clear they waaaay underneath these two.

its redicolus. I just listened to a Fallout 3 music and now I am typing this. Fallout 3 is the best I always tell my friends: "my personality is based on fallout 3" with words like "War never changes" "revelation 21:6" "Crusader of wasteland who dies in the end" and so on.

Super Mario Bros on the NES -- The first video game I've played.

Goldeneye and Banjo-Tooie -- Great games that showed what the N64 was capable of.

Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy Tactics Advance -- Introduced me to my favorite genre (I guess sub-genre) of video games, SRPG's.

Final Fantasy 3 on the DS -- The ending made me grind (level up) my characters to the point where tedious grinding no longer effects me.

Ace Combat 2 - I've logged more hours on this than any other game in my PsOne collection.

Front Mission 3 - Though not the first JRPG I played, it was the one that developed and deepend my interest in the genre.

Warcraft II - This was the first RTS title I played.

I'd probably have to add Wind Waker to my list. On top of being extremely strong in its gameplay and level design, it still has one of the best most believable worlds I ever explored and the best story I've ever seen constructed in a video game period.

Well, I can't really remember all of them but, 999 had me thinking about it for weeks. God damn story had so many twists and great writing that I started even dreaming about it. It rejuvenated my faith in developers for making games with good stories. Even though the game is a pretty much a visual novel/book type of thing.

Yeah Fallout 3 hit me in a similar way. Got me listening to some older music, interested in the 50's more- specifically the Cold War and anything to do with nuclear explosions. Also the setting and atmosphere is just amazing in that game. As for other games to add, I'd say the Pokemon games simply because that was a good portion of my childhood, and the games were damn addicting. A few more games would be BioShock, The Walking Dead, Heavy Rain, and Infamous 2 mostly because the stories impacted me in one way or another. Maybe less so with Infamous 2, except for both the endings which I felt were well done and memorable.

Braid: Some artsy games are too pretentious, but Braid isn't. Braid has a very deep and intriguing story to tell. Everything about the game is orchestrated so well, Braid will blow your mind in so many ways. It's has very clever story-telling mechanics. The ending is really depressing and it stuck with me for a while.

Tales of the Abyss: This game made me realize how much I love the Tales series. Before this, I only played Tales of Symphonia, which was a great game but it had a sub-par plot. Tales of the Abyss had a much better story, better cast of characters and an improved battle system. Everything about the game was incredible. I grew attached to the characters and the ending was so touching.

Tales of Legendia: This game has INCREDIBLE atmosphere. The art-style, the character design and soundtrack are all amazing. I wish more games would take after Tales of Legendia in terms of atmosphere.

Metal Gear Solid (All of them): The Metal Gear Solid series has a pretty incredible story. The cutscenes are all very entertaining to watch too. But the story is very interesting. Metal Gear Solid 2's ending blew my fvcking mind. (Especially that thing after the credits when Snake and Otacon talk about where the Patriots were.)

Kingdom Hearts: When I was a kid, I've always wanted something like what happened to Sora to happen to me. That is, I've always wanted to have something happen to me and my friends that sends us on an epic adventure in an unknown land.

Sonic Adventure: The first true 3D Sonic game. I got this game for my birthday in elementary school. I remember playing it for the first time with all of my friends and we had a great time exploring the adventure fields of Station Square and the Mystic Ruins. I don't care what you say, it's the best Sonic game of all time.

Dragon Age, mentioned before, is my absolute favorite game and had a definite impact on me. Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2 was even more impactful. The most impactful game though had to go to Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. That was a part of my childhood.

-Metroid Prime: Definitively my favorite title that I've had the pleasure of playing. The atmosphere, puzzle solving and attention to detail combined for an extraordinary experience. If there's one title I'll never tire of playing, it's this one.

-Burnout 3/Smash Bros. Melee: Probably the most pure fun games I've ever played. Burnout with it's absolutely blistering speed and action and Melee which probably needs no explanation. Every time I booted these up, it was a good time.

-Zelda WW/Okami: Always great to come back to, since a lot of modern games are seriously lacking in the color department. But more than that these two will always make me feel like a kid again no matter how much time passes. Seriosuly, WW's title (Earth God's Lyric) makes me 10 years old again. I wanna cry sometimes when I hear it. Easily my favorite Zelda game.

-Donkey Kong Country/Pokemon (series): The two titles that made sure I'd be playing games for a loooong time.

-Dark Souls: Thank goodness for this game. In a industry that want to sell sell sell by watering down franchises everywhere you look, there's still a game for us that like a little nonlinearity and challenge.

Yeah the Mass Effect games are definitely up there for me too as well as Bioshock, but Half Life 2 is definitely my number 1 most influential game. Probably always will be.

Super Mario Bros 1&3 for just being wonderful, simple, and imaginative. Sonic The Hedgehog for being stylish and technologically amazing. Super Mario 64 for its 3D graphics. Final Fantasy VII, Metal Gear Solid, and Grand Theft Auto 3 which took game storytelling to a more cinematic level. The Guilty Gear series. I love the character design and gameplay. I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of them right now. These are certainly the ones that have stayed with me for the last couple of decades, like any good works of art.

Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. It sparked my interest in history which led to my choice of becoming a History major in college. I'm currently working on my Bachelor's.

-A bunch of Gameboy and Genesis games for introducing me to gaming (Sonic 2, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Revenge of Shinobi). -Tomb Raider, my first 3d game and my first game where you could realistically kill animals and people. -Pokemon Red, first rpg and first game I spent a huge amount of time on. -MGS 1 for how extraordinarily great a game can be. -Smugglers run, my first PS2 game, blew me away with the graphics and open world. -Red Faction, first fps game I really enjoyed. Story and multiplayer were both amazing. -GTA 3, possibly the biggest revelation to gaming I ever experienced, completely blew me away with the possibilities, huge city, graphics, dynamic city life, etc. -Battlefield 1942, huge open maps with vehicular combat. -MGS 2, Half Life 2, Doom 3, Battlefield 2, blew my away because of the graphics. -World of Warcraft because of how incredible the gameplay and the world were. -Okami, no explanation needed. And possibly Minecraft for the amazing rng world's. There are probably more, but this is what I could think of right now.

Although I have many "child hood" games or games that I think are in my top favorite list, these are games that actually change my out look or "taste" in gaming.

-Starcraft(PC)-One of the first veryRTS and PC game I played. Sparked my interest in real time strategy games like Warcraft 3, Age of Empire 2, and Rome Total War(it's a Turn Base Strategy I know). Plus it introduced me to Diablo franchise.

-Golden Eye 64(N64)- First FPS game I played but it was not until I played Medal of Honor: Rising Sun did I started to like FPS games. This game introduced me to games like Metroid Prime, Call of Duty, and Ghost Recon.

-Resident Evil 4(GCN)- Never played that many horror games except maybe a little of Resident Evil 2 or House of the Dead. This game let me get over my fear of horror games.:P Without this game I probably wouldn't of bought an Xbox for Doom 3.

-Halo 2- This is my first competitive online game I ever played. Never was aware of the existence of hearing people talk over the mic, tea bagging, and being addicted to an online game in general.

-Crysis(PC)- Although I played on the PC for a few selected PC titles such as Starcraftor Diablo 2, I never considered myself a true PC gamer. That all changed when I first ran the Crysis demo when my new 9500GT video card came in the maiAl. Introduced me to not only modding communities but it also made me obsess with upgrading my PC, getting great performance for my games, and made me interested in computer hardware.

Goldeneye 64
Resident Evil 4 (Wii)

Dont really think I need to explain why but most of you probably have owned or at least played one of them. Building a new PC soon hopefully will have some pc games to add to the list :)

My experiances in Black Rock Mountain which was a central PVP hub during a chunk of my time in WoW when Blackring Lair and Molten Core were the end game. I stopped playing a long, long time ago but so many stories about that place. Mostly we greived other guilds as everyone went and raided at the same time, and back then outside PVP mattered and was rewarded.

Mass Effect 1 for how much I enjoyed it at the time. City of Heroes for the only game I ever actually role played a character on, really weird looking back on it but I remember enjoying it at the time.

Everquest, Sullen-Zek server, it's sad that not many gamers know what this means, it's something that you had to experiance at the time as I very much doubt there will ever be anything like it ever again. It was a once in a lifetime experiance and by that lifetime I mean Planet Earths. In order to explain Sullen-Zek I will have to right a full on Essay, lucky some other guy did it for me.I was unemployed claiming JSA during the time, I put all my lifes ambitions on hold for a couple of years for that particular server in Everquest. It's like having sex with Kylie Minigue during her prime, it was like being in Woodstock 1969, you were never there man, you were never there.
