Games that you used to find bad/okay but now like a lot more? (or the other way)

Basically, what games did you used to think were okay, or pretty bad, but now that you have tried them again in the future you enjoy?

My choice would be Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. Now don't get me wrong, I always loved Tomb Raider, and I always liked Angel of Darkness, but of course it wasn't my favourite in the series. I disliked how slow the movement was, how weak the shooting was and all of the pointless (well, they feel like they were shoved in at the last minute) talking segments. Not to forget the money bit, where you use money to do certain things... but if I remember correctly that is only at the start of the game.

With that being said, I enjoy AoD a lot more these days, as I am playing it at the minute. If they fixed the controls and made Lara faster (imagine the Legend engine) and get rid of the talking/money bit of the game, it would have been a lot better game. The Hall of Seasons (the main room anyway) always kind of frustrated me, but it is actually a pretty cool level now (to me).

Do you guys have any? :)

I have the exact opposite problem. Alot of the games I liked when I was a kid are now crap when i take a 2nd look. Ghostbusters 2, Friday the 13th, Back to the Future, and many more just are crap once the nostalgia is gone.

ToCA Touring Cars. Had it for PC when it first came out and thought it was terrible, couldn't control the cars. Now I have it on PS1 and it's great, the analogue stick makes such a difference! Very fun racing game.

I guess im quite the pposite gmes I used to enjoy (hell I even finished superman 64) are hellish to play nowadays there also timeless classics that never get old, but to me the "7ish-8ish" games of older generations are getting worse and worse

It was TOCA 2 which I had for the PS1 back in the day (around 1998) and I loved that game... mainly because it had in-car view! haha. Interestingly enough, TOCA 2 was my "more realistic" GTA back in the day . I used to just drive around the track because it seemed so awesome! (then Driver came out and then that took TOCA 2's place, although obviously it didn't have in-car view). This one is not so much a "what game did you used to like but now hate" from me, but it is one I wish to talk about (this is the other way, by the way). In the past year, I have played WWF Attitude, ECW Hardcore Revolution and WWF Warzone on my PS1 (well, PS2) and I have to say... how did I play these games so well when I was younger? they are pretty hard to play! not because it is tough, but because you have to keep pausing the game if you wish to know what move you are going to do. I don't remember doing it as frequently as I had to recently, heh.

TBH, I think it's the crashes that makes ToCA co much fun, :P Plus it has more realistic physics than destruction derby 2, so I just turn the agressive AI cheat on and play it like destruction derby! I seem to remember that ToCA 2 had more unlockable cars. Thats the version I had on PC, but back then I only manages to unlock the Jag and the Formula Ford.

I did not like Mercenaries that much. I found it to be very complicated. But after I picked up the sequel, i went back to the first one and enjoyed it. Also when I played spiderman 2.

Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus

I had this as a kid and liked it, but also found it frustrating. I sold itjust before the PS2 launchand forgot about it then re-bought it many years later from a retro bargain bin. I started playing it for nostalgia's sake but then fell in love with it even more so than when I first played it. As it stands, it's my favourite 2D platformer of all time and one of my favourite games of all time.I justthink it may have been too hard for me as a kid.

As for the opposite... I can't really think of any. While I do play old games knowing that they won't have necessarily aged well I haven't come across one that's completely betrayed my fond memories.

I was a little disappointed in Super Mario Sunshine when it first released. Replayed it a few years back and I can't believe the game wasn't recieved better, critically especially. An easy 9.5.

I didn't like Resident Evil when I first played because I hated the controls. When I really got into the series was about 3-5 years later.

Turok 2. I don't know if I ever fully finished it. I miss fps games in the vein of the N64. If the controls are tolerable, I'm going to attempt to play through this one IF NOT FOR THIS ONE REASON ALONE!!!!!!
