Hey, i'm looking for games from the snes console onwards to current gen consoles that have an in-depth story. Preferably i'd like to play an rpg with deep philisophical concepts or one that relies heavy on character development and plot but I'm open to fps and action adventure as well. Some of my favourite games of the genre include: Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy 7, Silent Hill 2, Terrangima, and Ocarina of Time. If you could name some games that you believe I will like based on these preferences that would be great. I would also like to play a game that deals with a dystopian theme (i've played fallout and bioshock). Thanks!

It wasn't bad, I'm getting pretty bored of sandbox games now though.

I saw you mentioned Silent HIll 2. I played Silent HIll Homecoming while the story is good and has 5 different endings its not as deep as SH2 ... you should still rent it though.

Easy: Killer 7 for the gamecube/ps2. I won't expound in great detail, but suffice it to say that it's one of the most unique, cryptic and symbolically-complex games ever made. It's ostensibly a FPS (sort of) detailing the exploits of a group of assassins (sort of) trying to stop a terrorist group (sort of), but anyone who's played the game knows that's a woefully insufficient description of what you actually experience playing the game and unraveling the plot. It has a surreal aesthetic and mood that will remind you of directors like Lynch, Jodorowsky, Cronenberg. Some of the images and concepts in the game will haunt you long after you're done playing. No wonder its GameSpot forum is still hopping 4 years after its release.

I'm also a sucker for a great story, and Killer 7 is absolutely my favorite game of all time, so I felt like I had to plug it in this thread. :)

You might also take a liking to the game's unique control scheme, which is an odd combo of FPS, RPG and adventure game.

Everything he said... :D Killer 7 is a fantastic game in it's own right and it really is as good as DoctorMabuse says. but if you want a good story and real vintage gaming, try FlashBack on the genesis/MD, still holds up today as a fun adventure with tight controls and challenging levels. or, i really enjoyed illusion of time on snes. kind of a secret of mana a like that was very enjoyable and i remember it having a very good story. if you haven't played it. give it a whirl, if you can find it. also, despite the hammy acting, the Resi Evil series on PS, DC or GC can't really be beaten for mad engrossing stories. RESI 2 and Code: veronica being, IMO, the stand out games for stories.

I don't know if you've played any of the MGS trilogy but these games are top notch. I'm also going to check out Killer 7 now.

Banjo Tooie's story was pretty good, at least for a platformer it was. Not Banjo Kazooies though that story was kinda weak only really mentionedi n the beginning end and at game over, in Tooie it seemed like everything you did moved the story along in the game.

"Tales of" GamesNevlim

Specifically Tales of Symphonia, the game's story is incredibly deep alongside its characters. It also has one of the best paced stories ever imo, never do you feel like too much has happened or you have no sense of what your doing. The games story borrows a lot from Norse mythology and also has a very philisophical touch in specifying there is no true good or evil, leaving you a lot to think about in between playthoughs.

You should try Shadow of the Colossus for PS2. The story is very simple, it doesn't have many twists and turns, but i find it very beautiful. It has a very special atmosphere which makes it probably the most beautiful game I've ever played. You might enjoy it.
