Having been playing through Demon's Souls, I've been reminded how much I love games were you can explore. Not necessarily open-world, but just ones where there's always something new or unexpected to find around the corner. I'm now hoping that perhaps some of you can recommend me any games that feature great exploring. I won't list all the ones I've played, but a few of my favourite ones that jump to mind would be (in no particular order)... - Demon's Souls [Lots of items and equipment to find + Interesting and varied locations to run around.] - The Elder Scrolls Series [Requires no explanation :P] - Shadow of the Colossus [Although there's not much to find, exploring the world is still fun.] - The Legend of Zelda series, but specifically Ocarina of Time [The 100 Gold Skulltulas, magic bean spots, hidden locations etc.] - Little King's Story [Quest-style exploration] - Banjo Tooie [Damn there was a lot of extra stuff to find and explore in this one.] - Katamari series [Though, admittedly, this is kind of crazy exploration...] I'm sure there's more but that's all I can think of right now. If anyone could recommend me some for PS2, PS3, PSP, DS, PC or Wii, I would be eternally greatful! :D But if any spring to mind that aren't on those platforms, I'd be happy to hear about them too!

If you're into dungeon crawls you might want to take a look at Torchlight. Several members of the development team were involved in making Diablo II, and although you're basically going through the mines below the town Torchlight, I'm having a blast just wandering through the tunnels and coming across random loot and fishing holes, with no idea what will be on the next level. (Plus, the pet feature is awesome.)

Perhaps you should look into the Dungeon Crawler genre then? Although not everyone is a fan, I love them.

metroid prime is pure win. mostly everything in the game is tied to the exploration. the equipment upgrades you get allow you to explore a little bit more of the world, you discover the story as you investigate your surroundings, the perpective is first person not for shooting (you actually have lock-on) but for a greater immersion in the world, and most of the enemies you encounter are merely indigenous wildlife.

Fallout 3. There are so many side quests and unique weapons to find plus there are little towns you can find that are real creative. There is so much backstory for everything including missions that aren't even recorded sidequests like the raiders trying to get in vault 101 from under Springvale school.

Final Fantasy XIII! J/K! :P No seriously, I think you mentioned most of them. Fallout 3 is pretty cool because everything is so atmospheric and interesting to explore. You never know what's around the corner.

I was going to say Red Dead Redemption but your list makes me think you don't dig shooters very much. I say Red Dead since it really does have that layer of exploration in it. Here's a couple of things you could do.

>There are challenging treasure hunts you could try

>Find random strangers that offer a mini quest you could venture outside of the main story

>Minigames are littered throughout the game world

>Random scenarios unfold in many areas of the game(man robs store, man tries to kill lady) its all up to you if you want to help

I still haven't discovered everything in the game but I highly recommend it for someone who likes exploring.

Thanks for the recommendations guys! I I didn't like FO3 much. I found it really bland. Like someone said, I'm not really into shooters either. I have played Metroid Prime, which I loved. And I'm planning to pick up Torchlight in the next few days. Any others?

Wind Waker no doubt, so many islands and so many secrets, it's like a haven for explorers.

I did not like Fallout 3 exploring that because it was the same faded gray. IT was not bad but it all look the same.

I'd add Okami to that list. I love to explore and check up on NPCs to see if there's anything new going on. Believe or not, one of the reasons Star Wars series was popular was because of the world and setting. It gave so much depth to the stories for you could learn many things about characters, cities and events that take place in that world.

You already mentioned Elder Scrolls. The Fallout series is based on exploration as well. So much too find and do.

Just Cause 2.

You will get bored and hate the game long before you get close to the Perfectionist trophy which by the way only requires that you do 75%.

Stalker (only played the first but explored the crap out of it)

Bully

Super Mario sunshine(I liked extra stars and exploring the hubworld)

If you don't like shooters then I guess platformers, rpgs, and adventure games would be your best bet. Do you like point and click adventure games? That's a massive genre that, if you can get past graphics and dated tech, would overwhelm you with options.

oh yeah. I second this. Just Cause 2 is a huuuuuge map. Like 4-5 Oblivions in scope. If you haven't played it, give it a go.
