What will happen to games like Demon Souls, Uncharted 2, Fable once we are in a new console generation? Will the devs just close the server? I'm pretty sure Demon Souls will not play without the online conponent.

It depends on the size of the communities playing those games and if it is cost effective to support servers for the remaining players. It depends greatly on what happens with the next round of consoles and what is the state of backwards compatibility by then. If say Microsoft intends to vastly improve Xbox Live then there is a good chance support for older games will be gone unless they work something out, just look at what happened with the original Xbox.

Servers eventually go offline. That's why I treat online components for what they are: neat optionals. The core game must be offline. A game focused on online has zero collecting value for me.

Any time my internet drops, Demon souls goes back to the main menu. So there is a work around? Also, what about later on in the game when you have to face an online player as part of the story?

I think you have to start it in offline.

You can still keep playing in offline mode you just have to start up your game again if you lost your connection and went back to the intro screen. I'm not sure about having to meet an online player to advance the story part but I have been told I was invaded by a phantom that made it seem it was an online opponent but was really just an AI opponent.

This is the problem with games today in general. We are living in the present too much. What happens when the servers for a game like Battlefield 3 go down and the DLC is unavailable, Borderlands, Mass Effect 2, etc? Future Generations will be missing chunks of the game or miss out on certain content. Look at BF3's crappy campaign. That will be the only thing playable once the online is down and the game will be looked upon as a piece of garbage. Developers need to stop releasing unfinished or half-a**ed games just so that they can add DLC later and make us pay more to get the full experience out of certain titles. Didn't that speeder bike add-on level for Chrono Trigger that a lot of people will never get to play teach us anything? What happens if the Xbox Live service goes down and great games like Splosion-Man, Limbo, and Super Meat Boy can not be played? It will be a shame that years from now people might not be able to play it. We're so caught up in DLC, online passes, and multiplayer that we can't even look forward and make games accessible for every gamer, even future ones and not just the ones right now.

I agree 100%

& people have the nerve to say Single Player has no replay value.

I believe it means another online player warped to your game. I did it today, but died before I could find the player.

Any game offering a single player 'horde' mode packs hundreds of hours of fun for me: MW3, Gears of War 2-3, Halo Reach, etc... The problem with gamers today (mostly younger gamers) is they get bored when they're not playing against other people. That's something I don't understand, if anything playing online detracts from the experience: people cheat, camp and exploit bugs, you don't see an AI doing any of that. Plus there's lag when playing online.
