Loads of games are set in standard modern buildings, stereotypical fantasy/sci fi worlds and so on.

Just looking for a few really different or unique ones. Stuff like the Mario Galaxy games, or even Tropico 3's sunny Caribbean islands.

Any thoughts?

Here are my two cents: Assassin's Creed 2 has awesome and for games unique atmosphere IMO. Especially I loved how they captured the light and the colour palette of the different Italian cities. I've visited them all on spring/summer holidays and it was almost spooky. The fact that the details are not super sharp on my PS3 actually makes the illusion even more impressive. There's a softness (caused by blur I suppose) that makes the world even more immersive. Also the music is excellent.

I would say Alan Wake feels quite unique and it stands out from the crowd, Just Cause 2 also comes to mind the tropical island has a huge array of different enviroments and styles.
