What game(s) have you been following the development for a while and were really hyped for it but by the time it came out it was nothing like you expected and you ruined it for yourself.

Mine would have to be god of war III. I was on forums for that everyday and watched every video and read all the info on the game and thought it was gonna be completely insane. I guess it is to an extent but nothing close to what I had in my head. I still enjoyed it and think its a great game. Just not what I thought it would be

Smash Bros Brawl. I expected Melee 2, but got something else. :( That and Heartgold. It's amazing how much nostalgia plays a role in gaming.

God of War III is a fantastic choice. A good, but ultimately disappointing, game for me. Came in below my expectations.

I usually don't overhype games in my head. I understand previews and promotions and vids are there to get you to buy the game. But I'm always skeptical as to how all the seemingly great ideas in a game will actually result in a good game.

I think the last game that I really did that with was Resident Evil 2. Not so much because I overhyped it, but because I read so much on the game before release that nothing was a surprise. I knew about 80% of the games content before I ever played it. It sort of ruined the game for me.

But a more current example of a game that was a let down was Fallout: New Vegas. Not because it overhyped it, but because it didn't even meet my standard expectations of what makes a stable and polished game. I bought it day of release, played it for about 6 hours, and decided I'm not touching it till they release numerous patches. It's been on my "need to play" backlog since because I've been busy playing other games.

Fallout 3. I was so disappointed in everything that was missing, that I just couldn't appreciate any of the things that were there.

for me it would be Black Ops. I thought that game would be amazing, and i didn't find it good at all.

also Modnation Racers. I was expecting mario kart with customization. There being no custom tracks in ranked races annoyed me.

God of War III. I was expecting this titan-like scale throughout the entire game...was very, very wrong. Still loved it though.

For me it's definitely Super Smash Brothers Brawl. Not saying it's a bad game, but having played the previous games I should have known that I just do not like this series. But I got caught up in the hype, closely following every character reveal and even going to the midnight launch at my local gamestop. I built it up so much in my mind, and I was sorely disappointed.

Crackdown 2 was the ultimate dissapointment for me. It was cool for about 6 hours... until me and my friends realized that the game was over.

Red Dead Redemption, To me the multiplayer sounded like an mimiture MMO set within the Wild West with tons of things to do and people to kill but what I got was mediocre online experience at best. Idid enjoythe singler player but half way through the game I felt like I was just going throught the motions.

Mighty Max for the sega genesis. I know that the cartoon was not even that good, but I was a shut-in child who didn't know MTV or Nickelodeon even existed.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood. I was so excited to finally purchase the game, but when I played it, I found it had the same problem as AC2. The first sequence was so bleh, I hardly wanted to play it anymore. I didn't care for Ezio as a teenager, nor did I care for him relaxing at him for a whole sequence. AC1 will still be the best one .

Put another vote in for GTAIV... I want to paint cars and buy crazy outfits and base jump... not schlep fat cousins to the bowling alley.

Originally, I hated Twilight Princess when it first came out. However, recently, I've replayed it and I realize that I was wrong about it. I just held it up to too high of expectations, but now I know better.
