So I’ve been a little burnt out on tactical, competitive games. I like Siege and Xcom and Rocket league because to really ‘git gud’ you have to think, and you’ll obliterate people competitively because they’re not thinking.

In a total change of pace, I fired up the Nazi Zombie trilogy spin off of sniper elite.

It’s relatively challenging playing solo but I’ve found it such a great experience to mong out to.

It’s bombastic, the music is great and you’re just blowing horrific monsters away again and again. It’s cathartic and I didn’t think I’d like the game.

What games do you play to just switch off?

That don’t demand much from you and you can just enjoy them for what they are?

Xx

What games do you play to just switch off?

Just to name a few-

  • Disgaea: Refine
  • Pac-Man
  • Tetris
  • Dragon's Crown
  • Lumines
  • Monster Strike
  • Critter Crunch

*mostly games I'm very familiar with, and have minimal effort to dive-in/ dive-out. No commitment to long sessions, just raw fast gameplay.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe despite how erratic the game actually is.

I never played much of Minecraft back in the day but I’d consider it a good game to wind down with.

Just about any game with zombies.

Diablo 3, or any isometric action-RPG, is also great. Grim Dawn, Torchlight 2, Titan Quest, etc.

DOOM 2016 is also great, just play by instinct, no thinking. Just attack and react and attack and react.

City Builders are my "happy place" game as well; not saying you don't need to think or plan out, but it's calming and not too intense to just lay down roads, plan REI grids, and watch your city flourish or fail.

There are dozens of retro games that I use to tune out and just relax with. Most of the games are considered very hard but I have played them so many times they are rote and I can zone out and just relax with them, stuff like Contra, Punch out, super ghouls n ghosts are games that I frequently replay when I just need to unwind.

I also trend towards classic beat em ups like Streets of rage, final fight, double dragon, tmnt games, etc when I just need to mindlessly hit stuff.
