I have read in several places that playing video games before sleeping is bad. Pretty much the only time I play video games is before sleeping, because it's almost like my reward for a day of work(I like getting the day's work done before engaging in recreational activities). However, I rarely go to sleep within an hour after going to bed, and it's really awful waking up everyday feeling like **** even though you technically went to bed on time. My question is, does this have anything to do with me playing videogames right before going to bed, and have any of you experienced this?

Moderator Note: Please don't censor bypass. Mmmkay? Thanks.

I play games before venturing off to sleep occasionally.I don't really see how it could be bad for you.The only problem I see with playing video games before sleeping is that you get so caught up in playing the game, you end up sleeping later than you intended, which has happened to me on certain occasions, and resulted in me being cranky in the morning.>_>

Sorry I can't definitely answer your question but I'm exactly like you. I can't get to sleep quickly and sometimes even end up dreaming about the game I was playing!

It really just depends on the person. People with insomnia (such as myself) are discouraged to have any kind of stimulation at least 1hr before you plan on sleeping. This includes watching TV, so I'd imagine video games would even a bigger no-no. Again it all depends on the person and your specific sleep habits. If you've always had trouble sleeping you could talk to a doctor about getting some sleeping meds, or perhaps some over the counter sleep meds would help you out.

It all depends. If the game is pretty complex strategically you may end up in your bed thinking about the game for a while, but that shouldn't be a problem since you can control your thoughts ;)

I've asked my doctor this, and she told me that engaging the mind is a stressful or intense situation, such as gaming, can hype it up and make it more difficult to go to sleep. You might be better off to read before going to bed.

I play before i go to bed almost every night. Few times have not been able to sleep because of it. I find even on nights that i dont play i can lay in bed for an hour before i fall asleep. I have found though that after playing COD4 for hours i sometimes dream about shooting my friends :)

i've game'd before sleeping through out my years.. i never felt the effects till i became an adult and started working. games can be stressful too and add to the stress of being an adult that's why if i play anything intense i usually end the night watching an episode of southpark to calm my nerves before sleeping.. or i play something simple and fun. i never needed this when i was younger.. must be a sign of aging. =]

Depends on what you play. I was playing Bioshock before I went to bed and I wasn't able to sleep. If I play a game like Audiosurf though it's no big deal.

The only problem for me on occasion is when i'm REALLY into what i'm playing, I totally lose all sense of space and time and before you know it, by the time I do go to bed, it's almost time for me to get up:cry:!

I think it's not bad. For example I sleep better if I kill some monster before I'm going to bed:D

I usually play games an hour or two before I go to bed, I doubt gaming before sleeping can do any damage what so ever.

Depend on the game.

If you play an adrenaline-heavy game(PvP), you won't sleep soon. If you have a negative and poor experience (raiding!!!), you won't sleep soon either.

If you have a regular and comforting experience, you will fall asleep content right away (grouping in PvE usually end like this, with an easy group...while you could have faced some challenges earlier, you will usually finish in easy mode, maybe even soloing...which is very good to help settle and quiet you).

The type of the game you play will leave you in an emotional state...some states are very good and healthy for sleeping...some are not. If I solo or group in a MMO, I will sleep very well soon after as I usually finish quietly, with something less challenging, the big fights and challenges where undergone much earlier...after hours, it is just something soothing. If I play a GBT game, I will fall asleep right after leaving the computer (especially if I play "just 1 more turn").
