Now this just came to me, how much of the gaming universe actually is female? I for one have played with one on my PS3 over 8 months of online play and out of my 27 friends, none are girls. I can't even get my GF to pick upa controller so are there any kick ass girl gamers out there or do the guys completely take it over?

Quite a few. Mainly cell phone / DS / MMO, and singleplay.
There are a few COD female clans etc.

Not hardto find... they just play different games... look at the Sims, and there is a whole lot in games like wow.

Most of them just dont like competative games, altho I have met some girls in almost any game I play at some point.

So, if you think there is alot of girls in CoD4, or CS, then no they are a very small minority (they do exist tho), in WoW or alot of singleplayer games, that does not evolve around personal killings, then they are often in quite high Numbers.

(Fun Fact: almost all the girls I know play "The Sims 2", none of them "the sims 3") and they are in thier 20's

Lol, define 'kick ass' gamer? And we don't only play the sims! I gotta admit I used to love the game, but have been over it for a couple of years now. Plus I'm in a long term relationship with my PS3 so that knocked the sims out of the way too. You guys were right about the whole solo playing thing. I don't have a thing for going online, plus majority of the games I play weren't created for that either. I'm talking Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, Dynasty Warriors, Need for Speed (various versions), and well...it used to be tekken back in the ps2 days. Didn't bother getting tekken 6, it's too much of the same thing. I'm going to switch over to the other side and explore other territories like Blaz Blue and Battle Fantasia. They look pretty awesome :D As for my age, well I just turned 20

There's a lot of women playing games now, but usually as wives of husbands playing the same game (which is how often they get into the game(s)). I'm a woman who's been playing videogames since '77, and be it FPS to, yes, The Sims -- and definitely not the stereotypical woman gamer some boys/men think women to be.

Of course there are female gamers. Gaming isn't a male-oriented hobby, that is just a social stigma which is luckily dwindling. Also, I consider the Sims to be a veritable game. I used to play it quite a bit, and think the series is really good.

There's a ton of female gamers out there. Most of them gravitate more towards MMOs and and other social games like the sims series. You won't find too many of them in games like Halo or Gears of War.

Well, certain sources want to tell you it's nearly half, but they're including girls who play things like Solitaire on their PC. The unfortunate truth of the matter is that there are still very few avid gamers out there; I can guarantee you that there's no chance that half the GameSpot forum members are female. In fact, I'd be surprised if females comprised even 5%.

Most female gamers generally have different interests. They either prefer so-called "casual" games (facebook/flash) or games that have strong social aspects (RB, GH, Sims and MMOs like WoW).

There are those that play so-called "hardcore" games like shooters/FPS/strategy but imho, they are the minority. And when you consider those that play such genres competitively, the numbers are even smaller.

I play and I collect. I'm almost 27 and I've been collecting since I was about 12 I think. My first system was a intellivision then a SNES. I have a massive collection now and I keep adding to it. I have nearly 800 games, over 30 systems, lots of accessories, a cocktail tron , a slot machine.... and lacking a games room to put it all in ( I will have one!!!) . I still don't get the wives who make their husbands throw out or sell their games but it's a bonus for me :) cos I'll buy them!!! although I have to agree and sitting and watching my last boyfriend play his game constantly was really annoying. I love games but that's just rude and a waste of my free time. Who wants to sit and watch someone play?

Same here. Woo-hoo! *high five*

I've tried online gaming a few times and it never really grabbed me. Too many a-holes out there who think they're the ****.

Go on any RPG forum. The male-to-female ratio tends to be pretty balanced in those communities.
