Today marks Father's Day for those living in the USA and possibly abroad. Yes, it has likely flooded your facebook news feeds with updates, and now it's being said here. Let's take a detour from the usual subjects that mark the day to discuss a less important activity that fathers may or may not have participated in - video games. My father is certainly no gamer, but I do have a few memories of him in the field. The first, and most notable of which being...

I remember playing this with my dad back during the SNES era. He was never very good with video games, and Rock N' Roll racing was the easiest thing for him. I still have the cartridge. I couldn't part with it. If memory serves me well, it was the only video game we played together until the introduction of Wii Sports Golf in 2006.

Got gaming memories with your dad? Share'em!

I think this topic would be better suited for the Games Discussions Page, but yea I got a couple of memories. He always beat me in racing games and I would go easy on him when playing James bond 007 Agent Under Fire.

I get what you mean. I was debating with myself on where to place the topic - the GD or OT forum. I was never good with 50/50 odds.

Do you remember the names of any of those racing games? Although my dad can't play any of the modern racing games, he doesn't mind watching them. Need for Speed: Most Wanted(2005) on the Xbox 360 was one that he was particularly impressed with.

My father is a truck driver so even when my parents were together, he was rarely home. Besides that, I do remember the year that I got Assassins Creed, I was playing about a week after launch and he came home and he came upstairs and asked for the controller and he's standing in my bedroom trying to move and he looks at me and starts laughing and said "It was so much easier with just a ****** joystick..." and gave the controller back lol.

My mother on the other hand. Like I said, dad was a trucker so she pretty much raised us physically by herself. She would kick my butt in Madden all the time, and she loved to play Rock Band with my brother and I lol

My old man had seen the games I played as I grew up but never participated any more then sitting down for 15-20 minutes and just watching, Then I got Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2 and he picked up the controller.

When Gran Turismo 5 was announced for the PS3 he kept asking when I knew it would come out, and when it did he payed for my mom and her friend to go on a shopping weekend in London just to get her out of the house so he could play it in peace.

Actually I always play games secretly without him knowing that I do. It's been like that for years, he believes that games are for kids and that I should be doing something tangibly useful in my spare time, so yeah...

We used to play ps1 games together.

FF7,8,9,MGS,Castlevania,Spyro,Crash Bandicoot,Tomb Raider,.......good stuff.I remember making him explain everything to me because i couldn't understand english. We also played some ps2 games together but then he switched jobs and didn't have enough time to play with me.

Now he occasionally plays some flash/facebook games on his tablet.

Sadly my dad was never into games very much...except for one, Galaga. He and I went to Toys R Us years ago and he bought himself a Turbografx 16 just so he could buy Galaga. At the time it was pretty damn awesome! We played it for a long time, he was really pretty darn good at it.

Nowdays he doesn't touch computers for more than work/email and he never uses consoles other than a wii on very rare occasions. Too bad it just wasn't his calling because it was fun playing games with dad.

I think the only time my dad ever showed even the smallest interest in my love of gaming was way back when I was a kid, with PS1 & a bit of PC. He used to verse me in Formula One on PS1 a bit. But the game I remember him playing the most was this little game on PC called Operation: inner Space (or maybe just Inner Space). He loved that game. But since then, nothing. Actually he criticizes me for spending "too much time" playing games.

I remember I used to play Tennis on NES a lot with my dad, as we play tennis in real life too. We're having so much fun that we don't care about the score and who win/lose.

Years ago I offered him to play Fight Night Series (we love watching boxing match), and he got so excited while playing it. But in the end he never took anymore interest for playing video games :(
