I want to play all the other MGS games before getting MGS4 for my PS3. I have already played MGS1 on my PC and I loved it. So is it worth spending 150$ for it? And what are the differences in Substance and Subsistene and the normal versions. Which version do you get in Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection?

A ps2 can be bought for just $100 you know... I think the MGS Essentials Collection is the way to go.

Plus I think somewhere along the line you'll be wanting your ps2 to play more games since you'll start liking different games and the ps2 has a huge library.

Realistically you could buy a PS2 for as low as $40 CAD for a used one. You'll probably spend between 60-100 for one. And like eccentric said -- there are a ton of things to look into that are worth your time so have an open mind about it :)

If only for MGS, then I'd skip it dude. There's so much more to PS2 than that. Even in the same line, you can check out other games like Syphon Filter or Splinter Cell.

I'll just take an answer to another thread I put down as it fits perfectly here: PS2 has one of the hugest and most diverse libraries of any gaming console. I'm sure you can find something more than just those games, making it worth the measly $50 purchase. And the games are dirt cheap at the moment. It's like when Atari 2600 went out of style and I was getting those games for like $2-$10 a piece. Same prices on a good majority of PS2 games. Plus if you get it at Gamestop they have a 30-day warranty on all consoles. So if you get home and find it's not working properly, you can always get another one.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Substance is on PC also, so the only game you'd probably be getting a PS2 for is MGS3, unless you want to wait for the 3DS to come out and get it with the MGS3 remake that's planned for it.

Then do it a PS2 is only $99.99 plus if you can find the Metal Gear Solid essentials PS2 triple pack. Metal gear solid 1,2,3 and a extra disc (detailing the Metal Gear Solid story/Solid Snake history.

Do it it is worth it... Or if you can find a BC Playstation 3 (20,60,80*giger) only first version of the 80 is BC. Then just get Metal Gear 1,2,3,4

Probably worth it. There are a lot of games worth checking out on PS2, so when you're done with MGS you can move on to those.
