God of War Compilation coming to PS3 this fall!

God of War Collection – Blu-ray Disc Compilation Available This Holiday Season!

For those that recall the God of War survey conducted earlier this year, an overwhelming amount of the community suggested the PlayStation 2 experiences of Kratos be brought forth to the PlayStation 3.

Thanks to your feedback, we are excited to announce the God of War Collection for this Holiday Season. Now fans and newcomers to the series can experience the epic journey of God of War and God of War II in 720p HD form. Both titles have been remastered with anti-aliased graphics, running at 60 frames per second for a smooth gameplay experience, only on the PS3 system. Additionally, the Blu-ray Disc compilation will bring the PlayStation Network (PSN) trophy support to the franchise for the very first time.

This is your chance to experience God of War is its true form before the chaos of God of War III hits store shelves come March 2010.

Kind of weird Chains of Olympus isn't included. Still, its a good introduction for those unfamiliar with the franchise. I have both games in my collection and there is too much good stuff coming out this year, so I won't be getting this off the jump, though I might pick it up sometime next year.

That's awesome news since when I get a PS3 Slim it won't have BC plus there'll also be trophies. Sweet.

That's cool, but that doesn't sound like enough for me to rebuy them. God of War 2 isn't even that old and still looked pretty good on my HDTV even! Still, awesome for anybody who hasn't played them yet.

The price point has been comfirmed by IGN and Kotaku (39.99). Strangely I was just giving GoW a spin, so I think this is an excellent proposition to begin the hype train leading up to the inevitable release of God of War III. Any news on a PAL release? I almost assume its a given but comfirmation would always be nice.

Me too. If they threw something in like an extra sidestory or a new mode, I would definitely bite. I've already played both games to death and having 2 upgrades isn't enough for me to be spending another $40.

Hard mode was already more than I could handle. [spoiler] The part where you have to tackle against a horde of Cerberus puppies was so frustratingly difficult that I gave up after several tries. [/spoiler]

On the first one, I was able to beat Challenge of the Gods, although it did take me 6 grueling hours to finish. To this day, I still consider it to be among my greatest videogame achievement. :o

My PS2 won't play them so it's a sure purchase for me. Great news! :D

i never played god of war II myself, so that and the trophy support is tempting...however there's just too many other games coming out the rest of the year that i'm more interested in...if this came out when summer started i probably would have caved in....

the best case scenario is that i can get it even cheaper down the line, maybe a month or two before god of war III comes out, so i can re-acclimate myself with the gameplay...

i never played god of war II myself, so that and the trophy support is tempting...however there's just too many other games coming out the rest of the year that i'm more interested in...if this came out when summer started i probably would have caved in....

I played GOW II for the first time this summer, and let me tell you something, it's the best game you'll play all year. (That is, if you're into action games) It ***** slaps every other action game ever made and makes most next gen games look like last gen games, it's not even funny.

Metroid Prime Trilogy is better! :P

Maybe it'll come with a exclusive God of War 3 demo?

the rumor that leaked this info a couple of weeks ago did mention the GOW3 demo being part of the package so I wouldnt rule it out.

and I played GOW II upscaled to 720P on my PS3 and it looked pretty decent. The textures are still PS2 quality, but the game ran very smooth and still looked fantastic.

Eh....I wouldn't go that far. Perhaps that would be the case if you're talking about the crappy PS2/Wii-to-HD ports, but as far the ones that had more work put into them like Batman AA and Assassin's Creed, I'd say that GoW II would look ancient when compared to the likes of them.

I would have much rather had the whole trilogy in one special edition.

I already have both, I don't have a B/C PS3 but my PS2 works just fine. But I'm still going to buy it.

Hopefully Sony does for Team Ico's The Last Guardian release. Imagine playing Shadow of the Colossus and ICO in HD, how awesome would that be?

And yeah, the Colossus of Rhodes battle TOTALLY rocked. I couldn't believe what I was seeing the first time I played. Everything was like poetry in motion.

Dunno if I'll get that. I have God of War 2 for my recently purchased PS2 (no BC PS3) and other games keep getting in the way everytime I try to play it. HD upgraded visuals sound neat, though. SteelAttack

All Sony needs to do now is release Res Evil 4 on the PS3 and I'll no longer need to wish i had a backward compatable PS3.

oh, i believe you about the action in god of war 2...i really wanted to play it but i believe the 360 was already out by then (i got it at launch) so i was busy playing call of duty 2, project gotham racing 3 and other games to get around to it...

the funny thing is, i still have resident evil 5 to play through so maybe i'll play them both back-to-back and compare them...
