Ok so everyone knows this game needs its own thread, so here we have it.

Discuss anything G007 (yes I made up that abbrev lol) you like; your fav levels, your fav villian, fav characters, best/worst levels, memories of the game, playing the 2 player with your friends and family, anything you like :)

Here is a bit about the game (from Wiki site) and its history for those of you whove never had the pleasure to play it:

GoldenEye 007
is a 1997
first-person shootervideo game developed by Rare for the Nintendo 64video game console, and based on the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye.

The game has received very positive reviews and sold over eight million copies. It is considered an important title in the development of first person shooters, and has become particularly well-known for the quality of its multiplayerdeathmatch mode, as well as its incorporation of stealth and varied objectives into its single player missions.

GoldenEye 007 was originally announced for the
Super Nintendo Entertainment System before being stepped up to the Nintendo 64. The intention for the first few months of development was for the game to be an on-rails shooter similar to Virtua Cop; it only became a first-person shooter later in development.

GoldenEye was developed through two and a half years, but, according to Martin Hollis, only the last year was spent developing the game. During the beginning, the engine was built, art assets were made, and the enemy AI was written and polished. The game was delayed numerous times, partly because during development, the team decided to incorporate a multiplayer feature to the game to demonstrate the N64's 4-player capabilities.

In addition to the N64 game, a version of GoldenEye was in development for the Nintendo Virtual Boy, but cancelled before release.

Before GoldenEye 007 was released, Rare had placed a feature in the multiplayer mode of the game, known as the "All Bonds" option. This would allow players to choose four of the five actors (at the time of the game) who had portrayed Bond in various films;
Sean Connery, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan. George Lazenby
was not included. However, before the game was released, Rare removed the feature for unexplained reasons.

The President of Nintendo of America, Reggie Fils-Aime, announced that Nintendo is exploring the possibility of adding GoldenEye 007 to the WiiVirtual Console, despite a complicated situation in which the game's developer Rare is owned by Microsoft (producers of the rival Xbox 360 console) and the video game rights to the James Bond franchise are held by Activision. He stated, "We would love to see it [on the Virtual Console], so we're exploring all the rights issues."

On January 11, 2008, 1UP.com reported that a GoldenEye port (as opposed to a remake) had been in development at Rare for several months, but stated that the title would not get released on Xbox Live Arcade since "Microsoft and Nintendo couldn't agree on the financial side of things."

This is the game that got me into FPS. It was some of the best times I've ever had playing a game. It redefined replay value IMO.

One of the few games I played over a year after buying it.

It was....until Perfect Dark came out for the n64 a bit later. Perfect dark may have crap graphics but it still blows the hell out of every FPS on ps2 in terms of offline content and customization. Goldeneye was freaking awesome up until then.

I still prefer GoldenEye over Perfect Dark, though I'm not exactly sure why that is. I remember spending hours with cheats enabled in the Facility level, killing the infinite guards. I think I made it up to around 2000 once.

Goldeneye is my favorite N64 game. It's also my favorite shooter, just above No One Lives Forever and Half Life (the PC versions.) Obviously, the control wasn't as sophisticated as mouse and keyboard, but the controls were just spot on. They worked so well that I don't think the game would be nearly as fun with a different controller. That game is a ton of fun. By the way, the site http://goldeneye.detstar.com is really cool. It has heaps of information you probably never knew about the game. Check the site out, it's awesome!

I love G007, it may well be the best FPS on the N64. Back then I played it so much that I unlocked the 007 difficulty and most of the cheats, which were all fun as hell to use.

My favourite level is the surface 1 level (snow, daytime) with all weapons and paintball mode cheats on: total playground (painting the side of the antenna station with the sniper rifle or laying hundreds of remote mines, then climb on the antenna and enjoy the explosion - and framerate freefall).

Goldeneye was the first console FPS I have ever played. It came out when I was in 6th grade. I still remember me and my bro trying to save up to purchase 3 more controllers for multiplayer with our friends. One fond memory is of this game, is having to beat certain stages at a goal time and difficulty to unlcok secret cheats to use. I honestly thing I spent more than 1000 hours easily on this game back in the day. Goldeneye rocked my socks

I would have to agree it is one of the greatest games on the N64.

Completed it on 00 Agent getting all the cheats and levels. On the single player missions I always like playing the Facility level near the begining as well as the Train and Statue park levels (love the creepy music for this level).

The multi player was always fun, especially if you had the extra Aztec, Moonraker levels to play on. It was nice to see some of these levels again to play in Perfect Dark.

Goldeneye was awesome, I remember playing it so much. I also occasionally play it now to see if I can beat the game in its harder difficulties.

Yep, definitely one of the very best the N64 had to offer. My friends and I must have put a couple of thousand hours during a 2-3 year run before Perfect Dark came out. I remember spending whole summers with them, locked in their house for 8 hours straight, literally every day. When I bought my N64 at the end of 1997, I bought this game with it...we all had copies of the game, because when we left the marathons, who knew how many hours we put in practicing for the next day....you had to keep your game up. Like many others, there was something extra special about Facility. I remember us trying for months on end, trying to perfect a strategy to get under 2:05 for the Invincibility cheat. I remember the elation we felt when one of finally succeeded and then we each got it. Perfect Dark is the better game, but GoldenEye is probably my favorite when it boils down to it. It was first, I spent many more hours with it, and I have many more memories about it...both rank in my top 15-20 all time though and I usually tend to play them a couple of days a month for old times sake.

Goldeneye, now there was a game with a real magnum. It could shoot through walls but wasn't overly powerful. Certain games today say magnum and 44". all the time but they fall short when compared to Goldeneye's and the resident evil ones. I liked DK mode and playing through the games with different cheats. I'm not knocking the game but I loved the square fists and especially the guards. I remember messing with their AI difficulty in the options and in Aztec they just stopped, rolled to the left, rolled to the right, and just goofed around. This game was definitely made by the donkey kong people. If you turned the speed up in cradle bond would jump off the installation early before the heli got there, if you turned the speed down it would leave without him and he would plummet to certain doom only to make out really fast in the end. That always cracked me up. The weapons were surprisingly well tuned for their time. The chops were hilarious. It was like dislocating your arm and using the other one to swing it. Mission Variety and the tasks that increased or changed as the difficulty did made you seem more spy like. If you failed your mission you could simply take your frustration out on friendlies or the hapless civilians. Multiplayer was smooth and frantic at the same time it was perfect wether searching for the last remaining enemy(no screen peeking) or setting up traps the levels carried their moods over from the campaign. Character selection was pretty big as well at the time.

I remember playing the game for hours with friends. We usually played Lisense to Kill, and everytime we killed someone we said,"GOTCHA". Good times. I do still play it from time to time, and consider it to be better then Perfect Dark.

I will always hold this game very close to my heart. This game was what got me into first person shooters. Till this day it is still my favorite FPS and I hope they release it on XBLA like they did with Perfect Dark. I never played Perfect Dark because I actually was oblivious to it's exsistence when it was released. I didn't have internet and I barely ever watched TV when I was younger (I was very active outdoors and was into sports) so I barely ever caught ads on new games or knew when new releases were out. I was 11 when Goldeneye came out. I just recently bought Perfect Dark for XBLA and I still haven't played it yet and it will be my first time playing it when I do.
