Good beginner Strategy/tactical RPG's??

I'm looking to get into Strategy/tacical RPG's but I'm a little overwhelmed at where to start. I hear they can be pretty difficult for beginners and never been a big strategy gamer as a whole I don't want to get into a game where I'm in over my head.

Two games I'm looking at Final Fantasy Tactics or Shining Force (I can get it for a buck on my iPhone). Are these good games for beginners despite their age? Any other recommendations?

If you have a Gameboy Advance I would recommend Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. A really fun game for both the beginners and the veterans.

I have an SNES, Genesis, PSX, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, GBA, and DS.

I daresay Final Fantasy Tactics Advance on the gba is the go-to beginner strategy rpg for people to play. If you're willing and interested to get into the genre, then definitely start there.

Get breath of fire 1 and 2 for GBA. Tales of the Abyss, Dragon Quest Journey of the Cursed King, and Rogue Galaxy for PS2.

FFTA and i also recommend unto you wh40k: dow2 on pc as simply put its to good to miss.

play fire emblem on GBA :) it's not that hard but the story is good and all your characters are unique

like the others said you can also play FFTA which is also super fun!

Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is the way to go. That was my first SJRPG, and it was pretty easy up until permadeath.

Second, just my two cents, but I'd go with Final Fantasy Tactics, on the Playstation One. It's still the best strategy game I've played to date. No other comes close.
