I certainly would not suggest battletoads.
Pixel-Pirate
don't try battletoads...
look up AVGN vs. Battletoads and you will find out
Naw c'mon, it ain't that hard. You just have to memorize it and it's all trial and error. :P I beat level three on my first try several times.[QUOTE="Pixel-Pirate"]

Battletoads SUCKS for a two player game.
one player game yea its cool, but two players it SUCKS!
Tano218
y??????
You'll end up attacking your friend at least once...and if your friend dies or loses all of his lives then you start over...the person that didn't die keeps his REMAINING lives so then when that person dies you start over!
You think its hard on one-player?
It is HELL on two player co-op

Actually now that I think about it, I wouldn't get it for co-op play, but it's good as single-player. Another problem is during the driving portion of level 3, if one player screws up, they screw it up for both of you. You have to start over together. Not sure if it's been mentioned already, but Booble Bubble?
[QUOTE="Tano218"]
ill get it so i can see if it stands for its name as one of the hardest video games of all time
Ceraby
Nice. You're a person that enjoys a challenge
the harder the game the more longer it takes to beat
that is the way i think of it
im all replay value
I'm not sure if it's been already mentioned, but if you're looking for a great co-op game for NES than Battle Citty would be your best choice, it's really fun and adictive, it's not that hard, well, not until you reach the later levels that is.

I second that. Battle City is one of the coolest and best of the early games for the system - although it was never released anywhere else than in Japan for the Famicom. It has 35 levels, pretty short, but it's sweet as long as it lasts. There's a level editor to play around with once you've beaten the game, although I doubt you'll spend alot of time with it.
So, good and cheap games with co-op? Well you're certainly not looking at much then. But off the top of my head I'd recommend Crisis Force, probably the best 2-player shoot 'em up for the NES, or the Famicom (same here, no release outside of Japan). S.C.A.T.: Special Cybernetic Attack Team could be worth checking out for a 2-player shoot 'em up, as well, if you run out of 2-player games to play - and honestly there aren't many on the NES (or on most other old consoles for that matter). Oh, and Silkworm.
Double Dragon II is the beat 'em up to get. River City Ransom is well worth checking out as well. And Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 & 3 if you still can't get enough of brawlers. Contra is probably the best run 'n' gun for 2, otherwise Guerrilla War is quite good for some overhead 2p shooting on the NES, and the unlicensed Vindicators.Pick up Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers 1 & 2 for side-scrolling platformers. Gauntlet I & II, Ice Climber, Mario Bros, Snow Bros and Bubble Bobble 1 & 2 are worth getting too.
