Good PS2 Games For A 6-Year Old

Hey all. My friend has a son who loves gaming, but he mostly ends up playing dads games. Well, me and his father went game-shopping for him the other day and I realized I was at a complete loss. Don't get me wrong -- I could recommend 100 greatPS2 games for ADULTS, but what's good or interesting to a 29 year-old may not hold a 6-year olds interest for more than a few minutes.

He loves his GTA (his dad lets him play occasionally with strict supervision, he loves driving around), and from what I hear he loves Indiana Jones and Batman (already has the Lego versions). Any suggestions would be much appreciated. :)

Most people of a very young age like platforming games, in my experience anyway, so I'd recommend Ratchet and Clank and also Jak and Daxter. If he likes driving around in GTA, he'll LOVE Burnout. Burnout 3 is fantastic. Also, consider picking up a fighting game like soulcalibur 2 or 3 or one of the Tekken games. They're very easy to just pick up and play and I remember when I was 7 or 8 playing Tekken 3 and really loving it.

The lego games are all great fun for kids, as is Cars (a good game actually -- you can drive around, and all that stuff so that should be good for him). Other than that I'd recommend Kung Fu Panda (A platformer), and maybe Marvel Ultimate Alliance (but probably not). Hope that helps :)

I don't much care for it but both my kids like playing Spiderman Friend of Foe.

The PS2 is not targeted at a 6 year old audience, it is targeted at mostly people 12 and older.

Try Burnout(series) and Ratchet and Clank...

EDIT: You said he loves driving around. Try Gran Turismo 3.

I'd second Jak and Daxter. The first is a great platformer and the second two are good open world games that are far less mature than GTA but still fun. Sly Cooper is another great platformer, although I've heard the second one is a bit shocking at the end. Hmm. I don't know that many great games for 6 year olds.

He drives all the sports cars at a snail's pace. Stopping at ever read light. Constantly braking and exceptionally slow when turning left or right. Hilarious.

Anyway, have you considered maybe, I don't know, buying books instead to help increase the child's imagination and learning capability, playing soccer or outdoor activities, and maybe read to him so that his mind doesn't turn to mush from TV?

The only thing I'd recommend is Brain Training. Sure he's guaranteed to love Mario, but wouldn't you rather raise a kid more properly?

Maybe some of the Spongebob games like Battle for Bikini Bottom or the movie game.

My son is 6 and he loves Buzz Junior Jungle Party and it's actually a fun game for the whole family to play together. Our 3-yr-old can even pick up and play and I have a good time with them too and I consider myself a pretty serious gamer, or as serious as I can be with 2 kids lol.

Beyond that though I'd say the Guitar Hero series is still good (especially 1 & 2) and NBA Street Vol. 2 is probably he best sports title ever made and is easy to pick up and get into.

All of these games are safe for a kid under 12

flying games (ace combat 4, 5,Zero, Sky Odyssey)

sports games (madden, hockey, mlb the show, tony hawk skateboarding)

Fighting games (Tekken 4, Soul Calibur II , III)

Music Games (Guitar hero I, II, III,etc)

true some of them might not be his style, but everyone is different. Not all kids want to play games rated for Kids. Sometimes games rated T for teen arent really that bad. but GTA games are definately not appropriate for kids.

Shrek 2 is a great game (multiplayer too). Depending on his skill level. But I'd say pick up one of the Sega compiliations. Kids that young are better off playing sidescrollers vs. 3d games.

If he likes GTA, get him Simpsons hit and run. It's a gta clone; he probably can't finish any of the missions but he can roam around on foot collecting stuff or hop into a car and drive around.

I've let kids play dynasty warriors also as long as they understand that the action is fake violence.

Halo, the PS2 edition with the Battletoads DLC. That was my childhood.
