Disgaea: Hour of Darkness (Yes there's a part 2 but from what I've read it is a completely different story and doesn't require knowledge of the first game)
Dragon Quest VIII is good. It's the very definition of an old-school rpg so if you favor those rpgs you'll ove it. I never played through it entirely because it was so late in the PS2 life cycle and I moved onto next gen. Still for 20 bucks it's a lnogn and rewarding experience

i don't think there is a connection between previous and future titles with this game but dragon quest VIII is pretty long. if you prefer old school JRPG though..

Tales of the Abyss isn't a sequel, it is just part of the tales universe.
