Good Silent Hill?

Well, I got Shattered Memories when it came out and it was my first silent hill game. I thought it was awesome.

What would be the next best silent hill game for me? I've looked up the games and it seems like some of the later ones didn't get great reviews but I'm also worried some of the earlier ones might feel too archaic to play for the first time in 2011.

I would highly recommend Silent Hill 2 if you get the chance

Silent Hill 2 is miles ahead of any others in the series. SH and SH3 are also great, SH4 is "good" but not great. Origins and Homecoming are meh. Origins is a little better but not by a whole lot. SH2 is the pinnacle of horror games though for its outstanding storyline, characters, atmosphere and soundtrack (though they all have great soundtracks, even the "less good" ones).

Silent Hill 2, such a fantastic game.
