Normally I wouldn't pay half the price I did for this Jaguar for an old game system (80$ US), but I have actually never seen one for sale around here. Plus, that's about the Ebay price and I know this one works and the controller is in the original box. It's in great shape too. But the store I got it at doesn't have any games. Iknow all about AVP and Tempest 2000, but I'm really not trying to put another $100 in a game that I am most likely going to play for an hour at most. I already ordered Iron Tank, any other good games that fall in the under $20 range?

Well, congratulations I suppose. Hopeyou like it. Other than the games you mention I can't think of a game that's worth Dick Clark on the Jag. Cannon Fodder, Syndicate, and Doom were fun in 1995, but they all have superior versions elsewhere.

No idea how to help you, sorry. Don't waste money on the CD add on, they have a legendary failure rate. But man, I always wanted one of these back when they came out, but it arrived a few years before I started working, and went they were on clearance I was already heavily investing what little money I had into PSone games. Believe it or not I always wanted one for Kabuki Ninja, the 2d fighter with Mortal Kombat like digitized graphics, and the Scottish fighter who shot a fireball from his crotch. Oh and yeah, AvP. Maybe I'll go hunting for one after my tax rebate comes in.

I love my Jaguar. Here are my favorite games: Rayman Tempest 2000 Wolfenstein 3D Doom Alien Vs Predator Zool 2 Zoop Cannon Fodder Super Burnout Attack of the Mutant Penguins Evolution: Dino Dudes Trevor McFur in the Crescent Galaxy Atari Karts Battlesphere Brutal Sports Football Breakout 2000 Bubsy in Fractured Furry Tales Defender 2000 GORF CIassic Missile Command 3D NBA Jam Tournament Edition Pinball Fantasies Piftall: The Mayan Adventure Raiden Soccer Kid Total Carnage Theme Park Ultra Vortek Worms Zero 5 There is a LOT of ignorance about the Jaguar. It's not the best system out there, but just look at the above list of games and tell me it's a bad system.

Pinball Fantasies? Kind of reaching wouldn't you say? Filter that list down to exclusives and tell me it's a good system.

Don't turn your nose up at a game because you don't like the genre, first off. I enjoy pinball games, and so do a lot of other people. Second, many of those non-exclusives are superior on Jaguar. Aside from the PC, there's no better place to play Wolfenstein. Quicksave, fast pace, good controls. Same goes for Doom and Raiden. Third, it's really not relevant at this point whether a game is exclusive or not. A good game is a good game regardless of how many platforms it's on. It's clear you haven't played the majority of the games I listed, so it's not as if you r opinion on them matters in the first place.

Same with me really, I was young and didn't have steady money when it came out. I would say that list is a little long, and from what I understand it's not a GREAT system, but there are some good games in there. Rayman, Doom, Missle Command, Pitfall, all are jogging my memory. I was actually going to Ebay the CD drive but it's like super expensive so I'm gonna grab a few cheapies off the list and hopefully find AVP at a yard sale someday.

It was shot in the foot by its inept marketing team. Rather than focusing on getting developer support they were too busy lauding the bit processing power which didn't give it much of an edge over the 32x. The potential of a console is measured by its content rather than by its internals. It was also unacceptable that it was packaged with an RF video adapter rather than something more modern for the time like composite. The original NES supported composite out of the box- what the heck was their excuse? Unfortunately a few of the games you've listed are difficult to obtain. Total Carnage is a pretty recent private release- I don't think billy's going to want to shell out $80+. Dino Dudes (aka The Humans) is a good game but I can't help but wonder how it'd take advantage of better hardware. DOOM is a pretty respectable port compared to its other console conversions of the era but its lack of music during play tends to disturb people. Zool 2 is utterly terrible unless you have a morbid fascination with Chuppa-Chups. Your list excludes Ruiner Pinball which is one Jaguar game I'm hoping to pick up eventually. Personally I like Checkered Flag but I tend to like the low-poly racers in general. The definitive version of Wolfenstein is the 3DO one from what research I've done. That port took advantage of the CD format to implement a richer soundtrack and featured the redrawn higher-res sprites which the Mac and Jaguar versions also used. I don't know about its save system or loading times, though. The Jaguar undoubtly is faster to pick up and play. I have no hope of upgrading mine to a CD model. They have a high fatality rate and are just too expensive to gamble with. I didn't grow up with the system so I'm pretty ambivalent towards it. I would say that it's the biggest disappointment of my collection although it does have a few gems. It'd be easier to appreciate them without the wonderfully fuzzy RF-out, though. I just can't pay the same amount for an AV cable as I paid for the system itself.

Few things: -Zool 2 is difficult, but it's a very well made platformer. -Checkered Flag has a frame rate of like, 4. -I HAVE Wolfenstein on Jaguar and 3DO. The Jag version blows it out of the water. -The composite cable can be had very cheaply. The S-Video cable is a different story. I recommend getting the composite cable as soon as possible, because the Jag has one of the worst RF signal qualities I've ever seen.

Welcome to the Jaguar collective! lol. Its a top old console if you forget the ridiculous 64bit campaign it had. I bought a nice collection of games for it recently and am very happy. Here's my collection:

my jag collection

If I had to make a list of the best ones I own it would be thus (sorry I know you don't wanna get Tempest or AVP but what can I say?):

Alien Vs Predator

Rayman

Syndicate

Super Burnout

Tempest 2000

Doom

Cannon Fodder

Cybermorph

They should get you going. There aren't many out for the Jag but I love it personally, its 2d graphics are better than any 16 bit console. Anyone saying it was the worst console they ever bought either just had a bad experience or had their expectations really high thanks in the most part to its awful advertising campaign. If you ignore all the hype it got about 64bit and just buy it as a 16bit era console with the power of a 32bit then you wont be disapointed. I loved Cybermorph for its (at the time) revolutionary polygon graphics. I had that game before saturn or ps1 came out and it was excellent. Kasumi Ninja is a giggle but not worth the money imo, unless your nuts on games like me. Syndicate sucked weeks of my life as did doom and Rayman and if your not comparing it to the Saturn or N64 but just playing it for the quality of games that it had for the time then you will enjoy it.

nope. may expectations were managed. it was just the worst console i ever owned. seriously. cybermorph was rubbish despite fancy graphics it was a horrible game. and kasumi ninja.... well.... wow that would have to be in my top 3 worst games ive EVER played. the only good games on that list are tempest, Doom and AVP. and they have been done far better on other platforms. sorry but why anyone would buy or play a jaguar now is beyond me. unless its for some ironic joke. and im not an atari hater. i had an atari ST for many years and thought it was great.

fine, if thats how you feel then good for you, thats your opinion and your entitled to it. As far as I'm concerned its a good console in its own right and every game on that list is worth playing. I doubt very much that you've played even a small percentage of the games I own for it so I'm not sure how you can base your statements about the console but hey, its not my business, if you didn't enjoy it then that is definitely a shame. In my opinion it was a nice console, with some nice games from that generation and some of its versions were the strongest ports available at the time (Zool 2, Cannon Fodder, Theme Park etc) for consoles.

Obviously no one would be stupid enough to say that its one of the best or even one of the great consoles of all time because it just obviously wasn't, and it clearly doesn't stand up against current tech but thats not the point. I still play it for nostalgia and the fact that I remember how muchI liked it when I got it.

If you know of a good source for a cheap composite cable I'd love to know about it. The little buggers are usually $20+ on Ebay. For some reason I just hate Zool 2. The visual style and utterly nonsensical level design choices just didn't impress me. I'll give it another chance sometime but I'm not expecting much. Checkered Flag isn't smooth but it's quite playable. It isn't Virtua Racing but it does okay and provides a nice range of track options. I still think I'm going to pursue the 3DO version of Wolf 3D. Is the framerate of the 3DO version significantly worse or something?

I buy all my Atari stuff on the Atariage.com forums from other users. And there's absolutely nothing at all wrong with the 3DO version of Wolfenstein. I just happen to prefer the Jag version.

i haven't ever wanted a Jaguar...until I found out the only way I could play the unsung classic that is Alien vs. Predator is if I got the system. I know people who have bought systems for one game. If there are some other gems for the system thats fine - and I'd eventually get them - but A vs. P is the reason I would buy the system.

I would LOVE to own a Jaguar. I just don't want to pay the ridiculous prices that they're going for, at least on EBay and Amazon; and I don't know anywhere else I can find one. I don't think a Jaguar should cost more than a SNES, Saturn, or Dreamcast, but they do. -Nate-

Anyone considering a Jag PURELY because they want to play AVP should be careful. I'm not saying it isn't a great game because it is, but for the money you will spend to get it, you might be a bit disappointed. It was a brilliant game back in those days and still holds up well today but just don't expect the next halflife or something. I love the game but there are other really good games on the JAG that are worth buying. Tempest 2000, Syndicate, Rayman, Raiden, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, Super Burnout. they were IMHO the best examples of their kind in those days, 2d gaming at its finest if you ask me lol. I never played mac or pc versions so this is purely coming from my own personal experience with consoles.

Thank you for this. I didn't realize until I got home that it used RF. That was a real WTH kind of moment, since like someone elsee said the NES comes read to do composite. I didn't know there was a composite video cable available for it but I am happy now because it really does look awful with the RF on it.

You can get a scart cable for the jag that won't cost you very much money, I did and it really makes an improvement. I need to crack my Jag back on again but I just don't have the room to house all the consoles I want at the same time lol
