must say after checking out some to the screenshots of this game it looked truly stunning, the demo on the other hand not so great depth of field wasnt so great, and there seemed to be a general blur to everything, hopefully will be sorted before game comes out as this is still a work in progress, otherwise loved the game

Thanks for letting me know the demo was out. Last time I had checked the demo wasn't there.

the dialogs are really simple like go for this get me this , the demo start with an option of grass disappear and i turn it off and then the grass start to pop up

the text is not for standard TVs and the combat was kind of fun the spells look really nice

The visuals have a very european style to it which isn't a surprise since this is a european rpg. The the demo story line is a bit quirky/funny. I really love the combat though. You can jump right in it, smooth. It looks like there will be lots of lot which is good. I hope the final version has crisper visuals but Ive am convinced enough from the demo that this is a game worth getting. I wish a Two worlds 2 demo would come out so I could compare the two rpgs. They will be out within a week of each other. I can feel my grades slipping already, JK. :)

It looks good. The problem is that I found that the combat is just like other open world RPGs.

Yeah it was great except for the fact that it looked atrocious, had horrible voice-acting, generic music, bad presentation, and a stupid story.

Is it possible the text will be updated so it looks alright on standard definition? Or am I out of luck.

The lip-sync may be designed for its native language and not english. Might be why it doesn't line up AT ALL.

I really liked the demo (on PC), but the voice acting is horrendous. And this is clearly a tutorial island- the characters speak of going to a much bigger area that has a war going on, so I wouldn't judge the story from the demo. I do wish block and evade were different buttons, though. It seems a little stupid that you must stand perfectly still to block. Maybe if I had a shield I could move and block (and no evade)? The demo on normal is too easy. Once you start a game, you can turn the demo up to hard in the options menu (PC). It provides a bit more challenge there for sure. I kind of hope they make the 'Gothic' difficulty as difficult as the older games- it would be a huge spike.

there were some visual elements of the game thats in the previews that was not present in the game such as a health bar on top of highlighted enemy names. Hopefully that means the final product is much further along then the demo.

The screenshots were from the PC version, which explains the difference in graphics.

Anyway, I'll have to play the demo sometime soon, but I've heard bad things about the combat - mainly that it offers absolutely no challenge, even against entire packs of goblins and wolves? That's actually really off-putting for me, since the earlier Gothic games always had a punishing learning curve, but a lot of the fun came from the challenge/struggle of actually reaching the higher levels.

Remember that it's just a demo people. I thought that the controls were very good and helped the game's combat flow very well. It had some pretty nasty creatures in the demo. My main issue is the stealth. It was terrible. It seemed like they just slapped stealth gameplay at the end of production or something just to say they had stealth gameplay.

There was stealth? When I tried to sneak, it said I didn't have the skill to do it.

You're correct, LongZhiZi...there is not stealth in the demo. When I tried to sneak, I received a message that stated I was not trained in this skill.

I liked it. It felt very much like Risen, a not so well received port to the 360. I dig the music/atomosphere, as I did in Risen. Hopefully it will end better than the uber bad Risen ending. The beginnnings of games like this can be a bit tedious with all the fetch quests that seem to go on and on and on.....but once you get past that the game will pick up a lot. I didn't even know about this game until today. Lets hope the game gets fixed up so it can fill the somewhat empty void of new, quality RPGs for xbox 360. This along with the new Fallout bodes well for rpg fans.

meh i didn't really like it. I personally thought the graphics were fine. ( i don't care much about graphics). But didn't think it was that great in general. I laughed when the characters started talking to eachother. it was pretty funny. I didn't think it's gameplay was that great. And i doubt it would have a good story or anything like that.

There is stealth, you just have to level it up once you reach level 4. [QUOTE="Planeforger"]

The demo made the combat feel like Fable 2. It's fluid and easy to switch weapons but they give you 500 healing items and I literally would walk into strong blows by undead creatures a few times and still be able to beat them. So the first part is a vast improvement over the stiff movements of Gothic 1-3 but the last part is a let down. I think you can only reach level 5 or 6 in the demo and you can easily beat mincrawlers and golems with no problem. I'm currently playing Gothic 3, I'm about level 26 and i still don't like messing around with golems. I think the main problem is that the creatures do have this charged up attack that they try too often and it's so slow. Even if this game was like the earlier Gothics with enemies doind a crapload of damage to the character each blow, it would be easy to avoid and just side step them chopping at their back. To be honest there are a few things that are common in Gothic games for good or bad: The games are Hard, there are usually a bunch of factions and ways to do quests, the graphics are ugly, the games are buggy and the voice acting sucks Now Gothic 4 isn't hard, the demo quests were a bunch of fetch quests, the graphics are improved, the game seems smooth and the voice acting still sucks.

Thank you smerlus, and when I hit level 4, I bought the sneak skill. There wasn't any indicator on how well you were hidden, and the AI would stand in one direction, preventing you from sneaking up to them. Again, discluding the stealth gameplay I thought it was a good demo.
