I agree on Uncharted 3, that game was flawless, apparently Arkham City is too, but I am yet to play it, so I will just assume it's a good number 2, Despite those games being flawless, Saints Row The Third deserved game of the year, no other games offer that much pure fun, unfortunately, fun is not what game critics are after, critics would much rather have a superb story and stunning visuals, and not care if the game has barley any actual gameplay. that's painfully clear with the '10/10' Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1XwFeLCrIA

And lol on the CoD thing, it was disgusting to see that recycled crap even get nominted for GOTY 2011 by some critics over the innovative Saints Row The Third, that's right, I said innovative, that's how rare pure enjoyment can be in games these days.
It's always interesting to see people's top games of the year, personally I'd have Deus Ex as 1 followed closely by Rayman Origins then Skyrim.
My GOTY of 2011 was Radiant Historia, and this is coming from a diehard Zelda fan. (Although I still enjoyed Skyward Sword quite a bit.) RH just took the cake. The graphics were fun and colorful, the soundtrack was... well, jawdropping, the story is, surprisingly, very original and mature, especially for a JRPG, and the gameplay was innovative while still sitcking to its JRPG roots. It was the best game I played from last year. The games I played (or can remember playing) are Dead space 2, Deus Ex Human Revolution, Zelda, Solatorobo, Radiant Historia and Batman Arkham City. I enjoyed them all to different degrees, but RH came out on top.
After playing Uncharted 2 last year, I discovered that that series is not for me. It was as if it was designed to go against what I enjoy in gaming. Definitely not my cup of tea.
The two that stood above everything else last year was Rayman Origins and Batman Arkham City. They were both brilliant in every way. A couple of the most well designed and polished games you'll find all gen.

Uncharted 2 more polished than Arkham City?? Um, yeah, no... In my first playthrough of that game, I hade a melee fight that ended with us standing on thin air, I was standing half in the ground when two "yeti" monsters attacked me in the ice cave, There is a glitch in one of the last chapters that has you flailing like a madman if you try to melee a guy walking up the stairs towards you (happens every single time.. try it. It's the part where the blue monsters are attacking Lazaravich's men), and there was a point where one of the blue creatures was walking on thin air for 3 minutes... I had no screen tearing in my PS3 version of Arkham City...
from my experience, Arkham City is far more polished than Uncharted 2 as well as being far more ambitious.
Finally someone who plays games for FUN!saints row the third won my goty
darksouls
deus ex HR get a very honorable mention

Uncharted 3 was good but it lacked customization and overall replayability that made the first 2 so much fun. Yeah ok, you could edit your character's appearance in multiplayer which was an improvement but I'm talking about tweaking the actual gameplay. Where the hell was my zero gravity mode for single player? I wanted to run through U3 as Donut Drake like I did in 2. And why could I not just play survival co-op without having to do gold rush or seige?
My favorites were Deus Ex: HR, Arkham City, Rayman Origins, Saints Row: The Third and Dark Souls.

Arkham City is one of the most polished games this gen, easily the most polished open world game.
Bastion always gets the shaft during GOTY discussions. :(meetroid8
Not really fair to compare a little game like that to massive projects like Arkham City and Deus Ex.

Yea, you might want to head on over to Lens of Truth and look up Arkham City, it has screen tearing on both 360 and PS3. Not a ton, but it's certainly there. That equals an unpolished game.
2011 was a great year. My top 3:
2012 has ben a slow year. I'm hoping for great things from the South Park RPG, and RE6.
And maybe we'll get to see FF Vs. 13, The Last of Us, and Ni No Kuni in 2012. Hopefully at least one of these 3 make it out by Christmas.

Which is downright shameful. Best game of last year by far.
