I don't think we'll get this game until 2011. This game has been in production for so long that I'm honestly losing hype for the game.

Although this looks real cool, I could never get into sim racers. I guess I prefer arcade styled racers like Pure and Sega Rally Revo. But GT5 looks great! I may pick up GT Portable though.

Yep its lookinggood, enough to hold me off until a release date announcement. Plus you all have to remember that this was a press day at Gamescom, it doesnt open to the public until tomorrow. In that case we may get videos and some hans-on input as there is evidence of a GT5 demo there.

Sounds good. A release date would be nice, though.

It's weird - the first thing I thought of after reading the bullet lists is "I hope I can repaint my car." It was a ridiculous omission in GT4 and unforgivable in GT5P. There's no reason I should have to sell my car and buy a new one just to get it in a different colour, especially if they've got the time to throw in car washes and oil changes.

Holy ****!

So that means if I turn my head right, it will look right. If I turn my head back, it will look back. But then if my head is turned all the way to the right, how can look at what's going on the screen?

This sucks, multiple reports are saying GT Portable will be free for those who buy a PSP Go, but it's Europe only! SCEA says the US won't have that deal. Another reason why SCEA sucks! These guys rather put Ten Pin Alley than Einhander on PSN!

I think preordering GT5 gets you the game, just do that :P That summary is completely confusing, hopefully tomorrow Kaz will enlighten us on some more concrete info. This game could be ridiculous if you interpret that car list/damage a certain way. Anyway, this is my most anticipated game of the gen (with MGS4) so dont screw this up please (not saying they screwed up MGS4 Shameus, sit back down)

Here is a quote from SolidSnake, since he was too much of a jerk to post it here:

DAMAGE!

Finally after 12 years of wait, I can die a happy man.

To be honest, it doesn't look as good as Burnout or even Motorstorm, but the bumpers, the hood, doors etc. are all individually modelled so that's nice to see.

You know last week I was going to make a thread about why games didn't make cock pit views standard, instead of first or third person. It's more realistic and by watching the PSP GT video, you can clearly see how emphasis on details creates more realism (rear view, side view mirrors!). Too bad I'm the Worst person at GT.. more so than the guy in the video. ps I hate digital speedometers in new cars..

After playing GT5 Prologue, I couldn't go back to any view other than cockpit view. It works so well. I feel like I race a lot better when I'm seeing the road the same way I would if I was actually driving.

Looking really good.

In cockpit view is a must. I wonder how they're going to implement the PSEye tracking? As it's been pointed out, if you turn your head to the right, you're not actually looking at your screen anymore.

I just wanted to say if this is how Sony's revealing its biggest IP then they haven't learned anything from their failures this gen. Gamescom has been a great conference from them so far, but GT5 deserves an actual unveiling. It deserves a decent press release which showcases at least the features of the game. Because right now, it's a mess. The game is supposedly coming out in a month yet we haven't even heard Kaz really talk about the game. Whoever is responsible for the PR at Sony deserves to be lined up and shot in the face.

Twice.

I didn't post the GIFs because GIFs cripple my computer.:P It has gotten even worse in Safari 4.0. They load eventually, but my browser freezes up for a good 30 seconds whenever there is a GIF on a page.

edit: ...I'm super excited for damage. What they've shown looks great.

God this game definitely got a visual face lift, I am dying for this game. That September release date has got to be bollocks, it would have to go gold like next week which isn't happening. Im HOPING for a December date but god knows at this point. I cant wait for license tests, especially the challenging ones. I remember when GT4 came out, I had gotten the new DF Pro and there was this one test that has you going through this pylon made course in a set time, it was so fun. You really had to throw around the wheel, I would play that test just to get better with the PRO. There was also this test on Nurburgring where you had the old Benz CLK without traction. Obviously, with License tests, you cant touch the grass or you fail and I spent a good hour or so on that test alone. Things like that make the GT series more than just a racing game for me. You cant really find that anywhere.

According to this article that not all cars will have damage or damage will be limited. It's a step foward for the series at least. I do find it weird that not all cars will be created equal in the sense of damage and detail.

It's especially bizarre because Polyphony always talks about not doing something if they can't do it properly. Damage on only a portion of cars seems like a weird concession between the manufacturers and (maybe) their development time. It almost seems like something Sony pressured them into doing, as every interview I've read or seen with the guys at Polyphony seem like they're far too proud to include damage in a Gran Turismo game unless it applies to everything. It's almost like having a game where only a portion of the cars have modeled interiors.

"Those selected could be the 170 premium cars mentioned on the Gran Turismo website that will have full interior modeling unique to each car. The site said that even damage will be modeled in the interiors of these cars. " 1,000 cars with only 170 of them having uinque modeled inferiors? Are the others going to have generic ones?

This should be awesome. I'll finally have a use for my Playstation Eye!

Polyphony confirms GT5 head-tracking

Polyphony Digital mastermind Kazunori Yamauchi has confirmed that the forthcoming Gran Turismo 5 features support for head-tracking via the PlayStation Eye camera accessory.

According to Gran Turismo resourceGT Planet, the feature was first mooted on Polyphony's website during gamescom and was recently confirmed by Yamauchi during an interview with Italian gaming site MultiPlayer.it.

The head-tracking feature is restricted to the in-cockpit view within GT5. Employing facial recognition, the PlayStation Eye scans the position of your head and adjusts the viewpoint in the cockpit accordingly, effectively replacing the use of the right analogue stick on the DualShock 3. Your display stops being a flat 2D representation of a 3D world and effectively becomes an interactive window into the game experience.

Want to see how close your opponents are to catching up? Turn your head and look at the wing mirror. Want to see which gear you're using? Look down at the transmission and see for yourself as you would in a real car. Want to check out the racing line beyond the next corner? Look beyond the turn just like real drivers do.

To get some idea of how the display's perspective adjusts when head-tracking is in play, there's no better example than Johnny Lee's original YouTubevideobased on reverse use of the Wii remote's infra-red sensor. Sony's technology - assuming it works well, of course - goes far beyond this in taking infra-red out of the equation completely. Head-tracking looks set to be integral component of Project Natal to the point where the self-same Johnny Lee is now working under NDA with Microsoft, but the inclusion of the feature in Gran Turismo 5 will be the first time we've seen it deployed properly in a current-generation console game.

Going forward, it also has big implications for the forthcoming PS3 motion controller, which also works in conjunction with the existing PlayStation Eye accessory, suggesting that Sony's plans in this area go beyond using feedback from the "wand" alone...

Thanks for the link rag. Sounds cool.

on a related note, one of the tech vids released recently for Sony's new motion controller suggests that the Wand might not have an analog stick. Bummer!

Thanks for the link rag. Sounds cool.

on a related note, one of the tech vids released recently for Sony's new motion controller suggests that the Wand might not have an analog stick. Bummer!

I'm hoping it was just a prototype, because I think it will be lousy without analog. Although I suppose your head could work as an analog stick if they wanted to use head tracking. It isn't ideal, but it would be better than nothing.

But how would you move forward/left&right? I understand they could still use the Wand to point the crosshair at the screen, and "look" around using the head tracking technology, but how would you move your character forward? I always figured an analog stick on the Wand would function as the left analog stick on the DS3.

Anyway, according to Eurogamer's source GT5 is now officially coming out Q4 2009. No more confusion over whether it was Sony's fiscal Q4 or Q4 2009, it seems GT5 is hitting this year after all. w00t! Now damage on ALL cars, do it Kaz.... DO IT!

The source also talks about a 250GB Slim.... WTF! i thought we were done with multiple SKUs! Apparently they are bundling Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed 2 or GT5 with the 250GB. Great! I had doubts over Uncharted 2 hitting the million mark in NA, now it's not gonna happen for sure. (Why would anyone buy a U2 bundle anyway? If they dont own a PS3 then they probably have never played the first Uncharted and if they havent played it then they are most likely not fans of the game. i mean wtf?

Please Sony, I beg of you. Please give me a release date soon so I can get my Dad off my back asking if I know when the game will come out.

not sure if there are dual 360/ps3 owners in this thread, but if so i have to ask - since it seems like GT5 is hitting this year, are you getting this over forza 3, or are you getting both (and playing both) at the same time? or would you actually get forza 3 first?

i was actually counting on another GT5 delay so i had my money set aside for forza III already, but GT is just looking stunning right now so i think i'm leaning towards getting that first and forza down the line...playing both at once just doesn't seem to make much sense to me but i definitely want to play both titles...

I've never been able to get the hang of Forza, so for now I'm avoiding it. I can race really tight lines in GT5 Prologue without hitting things or flying off the track, and for whatever reason the Forza games never clicked with me. I've got my eye on it though. I'm either going to get Gran Turismo PSP or Forza 3 to scratch the itch until GT5 comes out.

IGN UK has reviewed GT PSP and given it a 6.8.

Being that I'm such a massive fan of the Gran Turismo franchise, I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that this isn't a great (or even just good) game. It pains me to say so, but it's the truth. While the driving mechanics are great, if somewhat dated, the numerous presentation issues (like the complete lack of a career mode) really keep this from being what it could, and should, have been.

This is a massive bummer. I'll keep hope alive for a while while I wait for other reviews, but this isn't looking so hot. Then again, I'm interested in the game solely to race while I watch TV, so I'll only be halfway paying attention to it anyway. I might still enjoy it.

No worries at all. I didn't see your PM, so sorry about that. I didn't bump my thread to spite yours or anything like that.

GT5 for sure. I loved the original Forza back in the original XBOX days but GT just has so much prestige and nostalgia for me that I won't be able to pass it up. I personally won't have time for 2 sim racers this season so I have to whittle it down to just 1 and GT5 won my vote.
