i was sitting on my couch and i was playing a game (i forgot which one) and i remember it had really good graphics but the gameplay sucked and that brought up the question would i be willing to play a game with horrible graphics in exchange for a game with good gameplay. i would definitly play a bad looking game if it had good gameplay how bout you

Agreed with you, what's the point of having HD graphics, 60 frames per seconds, blah blah technical terms, if you get bored with the bad gameplay and you prefer to turn off your console? Prefer a regular graphics (let's be serious, some good graphics are always welcomed) and a good gameplay that got you hooked.

Some time ago, in a union I belong to, the same question got raised. It was in the form of a poll.

Gameplay won. And if you had good graphics, so much the better

I would say both, but the thing is, although graphics can spoil people to the point of playing remakes than the actual original games, if graphics really make or break a game, then there's something wrong. To me, when you strip a game bare, gameplay is definately tops.

While this isn't the case with going back and playing good games on older systems (that had good graphics at the time) theres just something about a current gen game that has bad graphics. It makes the developers seem lazy and it is apparent that the didn't spend much time on the game and often the gameplay suffers as a result of such laziness.

Just look at FF 7 and Ocarina of Time, the graphics are not that great compared to todays standards but they stand the testiment of time for being one of the 2 best games out there!

Gameplay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> graphics.

Graphics is the last thing I look in games. I really wouldn't mind if GTA 4 will still be on PS2 despite the graphics (even if it is like GTA SA).

Well I agree gameplay is always the most important aspect. The problem is, even if say a game came out and the gameplay was excellent and the graphics were not on par with this generations graphics, the forums for that game will be full of snotty little kids claiming the game is bad because graphics aren't good enough for them.
I can barely stand going to those forums, no matter what, someone is trolling, make dumb comments, complaing about insginficant things, like MGS4 forums, no matter what, everyday there is like 10 topics being like MGS4 IS GOING TO 360.

Sorry went a little off there.

Considering that graphical and gameplay standards are always increasing and the only thing that can truly stand the test of time is artistic styIe, neither is important. I really don't know why I play games anymore, I think it is just for the escapism into a different world for an amount of time and it really doesn't matter how "good" the gameplay and/or graphics are... just that it is immersive enough to keep me entertained for the time being.

Sorry, but that's not totally true. Final Fantasy 7 hasn't aged well at all, and most of the people still saying how awesome it is are the kind of people who decided it was awesome in 1997 and never stopped believing it so. Ocarina of Time was recently repackaged as TP, becoming the first Zelda game I felt was totally routine and boring.

Those games did set standards, and though they are still fun today, they are not among the best of the best anymore. They are still totally worth playing, but to put them up against today's games is just wrong.

But back on topic! Graphics and gameplay aren't locked in an eternal struggle over your TV. Both can coexist and be totally awesome. Gears of War, for example, had the best graphics of its time and was a revolutionary shooter. Graphics can even have a direct impact on gameplay, as things like a bad framerate or not being able to tell what is happening isn't good!

here's another question about gameplay would you rather have a game that has a great story or a game that has cool controls and you can just pick up and play like the bigs it had good controls but it wasn't very deep it didn't even have a franchise mode or a game like mlb 08 the show that has a bunch of very in depth modes but confusing controls

Gameplay will always win over graphics.

As long as you have a fun time playing the game who cares what it looks like.

Here is my order of importance.

1) Gameplay

2) Gameplay

3) Story

4) Gameplay

5) Graphics & Music

I was pretty close to breaking the tie and sticking graphics in 6th place.

Im a sucker for graphics. Just played Bioshock on 1080p and was blown away. Last week I played Fatal Frame 3 for the PS2, and although I had ALOT of fun, its still hard for me to get past the graphics.

Everything feels blurry to me if I play a game not in high definition.

Graphics aren't a huge deal as along as the game's fun, wich is something that Gameinformer dosen't seem to grasp since they pretty much say the Wii won't last long due it's inferior graphics.
