Hello everyone. The unthinkable has happened. I think I have grown out of games :(

I am nearly 21 and have been playing games since I was 12. But lately I just don't seem to be getting the same enjoyment out of them, they just seem tedious, repetative and same old.

Even with games like SC2 which I got really hyped up about. Completed the campaign and though it was Meh.. Usually play two or three games online, then thats it for the day. Spend more of my time on forums / the internet! Don't have any other hobbies to do in my spare time, thats the problem.

Anyone else had the same thing?

Sounds like you need to expand your branches on what you play.

I advise trying some dota like games...once you get the hang of it they will waste ur time very well. lol

Assuming you don't have a Console a 360 or PS3 will cure your problem.

We all go through that at some point, usually a break helps and doing other things, sometimes even trying out other genres and other games that wouldn't have been tried before.

Just one of those things.

I get the feeling every now and then. I think it's that games don't feel as "special" as when you were a kid. You would save up for 1 game you really look forward to but as you're older you can afford a bunch of games every couple of weeks. Plus we used to rely on monthly magazines for game updates, now we have the internet to dissect games for every piece of info before we get our hands on them and there's gameplay footage, etc. It's less of a surprise factor when you actually get the game. *Shrugs* Just a theory as to what you're going through. Generally speaking I like gaming as much as ever.

For most people these tend to come and go. I think maybe take a break from gaming and get another hobby, then when you do get back into gaming it might feel exciting again. I get this feeling sometimes, but I normally just take a break for a few weeks or months and it usually go's away

Time for you to set gaming aside for a while and earn a living/make a life for yourself. That's what I did. I scaled back my gaming quite a bit to concentrate on career. Now that I feel fairly okay where I'm at in life, I resumed gaming once more since I'm always homebound with family when not working.

I believe you may just be going through a trough in your gaming interest.

I'd say try another genre, or even splurge and get a new system, I rarely, if ever, feel bored with gaming, but when I do, a brand-new game or two generally grabs my interest back.

Also, It may be helpful to have more than one game going at once, that way when one starts to feel mundane, you can pop over to the other game you're currently into, and play that for a few hours, then the next day when you go back to the other game, you won't feel bored with it.

I felt the same, I use to play games like no one else I knew. At 17 I stopped playing games and started studying and going out more, and looking for a job that suits me. Now I found what i wanted, i'm happy at my position. After I got myself a PS3 and X360, I knew a new generation of gaming has started. And now I'm trying to stay up to date with that.

I noticed this trend as well as I grew and matured. It isn't that games are getting worse, it is just that, as an adult, you are less tolerant of the bad games. The solution is to be more picky about the games you play and expand your horizons.

I go through moods. It's not so much that I grow tired of them, as I'm just not in the mood to play them. I can go months without playing a game, and then there will be months where it seems I do little else.

I can't see there ever being a point where I give them up for good. I know I'll always go back to them eventually.

I get that feeling every once in a while. I usually do one of two things. 1) Take a break, focus on other things, try to learn something new. 2) I start diggin' for games that are obscure, old-school, or both. That's what I'm doing right now actually lol. I play my NES more than my PS3 lately.

This is exactly how I feel. I used to get 5 dollars a weak for allowance, and I'd save for months to get a game or wait until Christmas or my birthday. I used to rely on Nintendo Power for all my gaming information. Now I own every current gen console, handheld and home console, and buy games all the time. Since getting a new game isn't a rare occurence anymore, it doesn't feel as special.

I was in that rut but then I started getting back into JRPGs and 2d fighters. Start looking at Niche games that offer unique experinces instead of going with the main stream.

called getting burnt out, can happen with anything...i tend to take major breaks from gaming from time to time, usually when nothing interesting comes along...i usually only prefere RPG/Adventure/Platform titles...sometimes i revert to just playing simple point and click games on the PC. Basically i take a break from it usually for weeks, and eventually my interest builds up again and im back in the games.

same thing happens with my musician life, i get burnt out, my Fender Bassman starts collecting dust and after a long break i fire up the tubes again and am reminded why i am a musician in the first place!

Uncanny, my story is almost identical. At about 21 I started going out more and spent less and less time gaming. I still played a little but nothing like the obsession of earlier years. Worked my way up to a good job, got a family, house, etc. Then, at about 26 I got back into gaming and I'm now as hooekd as ever.

Sometimes I guess we just need a break. Early 20s seems to be a good time for it as we all have other priorities. You'll probably find you'll swing back to your hobby after a brief break.

Also, as mentioned above, expanding your gaming genres is always a good move.

I think most people go through this. Once I started college the exact same thing happened to me. I found myself spending more time reading about games then actually wanting to play them. When I did play games they became tedious and I would never have any desire to finish them. I'm not sure I ever recovered from it. But here are a few suggesions from a 23 year old.

1. Take a break, I'll go a month or 2 without picking up a controller sometimes.

2. Only play games that you are extremely interested in. I used to try and play all the new great releases but I'd grow bored and feel like I just wasted my money. So stop caring about the must play games and just play games that really appeal to you.

3. Try different genres I was never into any RPG or action RPG games but I became obsessed with fallout 3 for some reason it just hit me the right way.

4. This might seem to contradict my 3rd suggestion but play shorter games or games that you can leave for a month at a time and pick right back up. As you get older life gets busier. You have bills to pay, people to date, and friends to keep happy. Gaming can start to feel like a chore or even *gasp* a waste of time. My favorite game in the last 2 years was Uncharted 2. I was able to play the game an hour or 2 for a few nights in a row. The pacing kept me interested and it never became repetitive. I never touched the multiplayer and probably never will. I beat the game and put it away. I thought it was the perfect length.

Hope I helped!
