$40? Polyphony and Sony are out of their damn minds.
I'll be very interested to see how it sells - I don't think Gran Turismo has the clout it used to, especially after the comparatively poor performance of GT4. I also hope this prologue doesn't sell well simply because I think it totally crosses the line of letting consumers have a peek at what they're working on and enters rip-off territory.
I'm probably not buying it, since I will be up to my eyeballs in GTA4 when April rolls around. While I think it is a little bit too expensive, it is much more than a demo. It will have 60 cars, and16 car online races. If you are a big Gran Turismo freak, I think it is a pretty good package, and certainly enough to keep someone busy until the final game comes out.
I don't mean to be rude but the REAL fans of the GT franchise don't care much about $40. Just a set of tires for these cars IRL is worth around $10,000.SKaREO
That's part of the problem, though. It's still a game, and as a game it's overpriced for what it is. I'd also consider myself a GT fan, and I play the series because I can race approximations of fancy cars without having to worry about the expenses.
[QUOTE="Archangel3371"]Yeah it seems a little pricey and they really should charge less for it if you buy it via download from PSN. They probably would have made more money if it was priced lower.dvader654
It is way too high, I think $20-25 would be the magic price point. I know it has a ton of content and to be fair its probably better than every other racing game on the PS3 as is but its the fact that its a small piece of a game that bothers me. I wil get the full game I don't want to feel like I paid twice for it.
I was thinking $30 for the physical copy and $25 for the downloadable one but your prices work for me as well.
For the record, Prologue is more than a "small piece." We imported the Japanese version late last year and did a hands-on...trust me, it took a while. There's a lot more here than many of you are realizing.
It's absolutely worth the price of admission for racing fans. Not saying it's for everyone, of course.

It still contains about a quarter of the content of GT4, and that's being pretty generous. I'd call that a small piece, especially given their decision to push the sticker so close to the price of a full game. Even if you compare it to Forza 2, which itself has less content than GT4 or Forza 1, it comes up remarkably short.
I'm sure it's pretty cool, and there is part of me that's tempted because I love GT and racing games, but this whole thing is like paying for a meal and then being led into the kitchen to sample some of the ingredients instead.
$40 for half a game, then they want another $60 for the full game later on? WTF?
It looks beautiful and all but that's ridiculous. These 1st-party companies are out of their damn minds this generation.

I agree. They should give people who purchase Prologue a coupon so that they can purchase the full version at half off.

And I'm absolutely going to pick this one up.

But it's some good stuff, an oyster here, a filet mignon there, a piece of well done lamb, a nice small piece of cod, then some nice wine to go with it, and a small piece of succulent dessert.

I'm not arguing that the price isn't for everyone, but I will say this "demo" is about three times bigger than the largest demo you can find. We should be comparing it to other DEMOS, not full games. I am aware of the $40 price tag, but for hardcore racing enthusiasts (and trust me, I know a few), the price isn't even something to consider.
Also, check your PMs.
