GTAIV - Which system will you get it for? (A multiplayer finder thread)

I'll be definitely picking up the XBOX 360 version of the game. I have enough money to get the PS3 version but I'll see if I'll get it along with the XBOX 360 one. I was planning on getting a Dualshock 3 this weekend for MGO.

As of right now, I currently have the XBOX 360 version preordered but I've been contemplating on switching it for the PS3 version. I have 2 reasons for this switch. 1- My XBOX 360 is currently broken at the moment but I am borrowing my stepfather's and 2- I see that quite a few people in the Gamespot forums are getting it for the PS3 and I want to really play with a lot of you guys here.

So from this, I decided to create a thread for the people of GGD to post of which version of GTAIV you're all getting so we can all prepare friends list beforehand. This'll make this less complicated and cluttered when the game arrives on April 29. So I'll start by giving out both my XBOX Live gamertag and my PSN gamertag, because as of right now, I don't know which version I'll be getting. I'll inform you guys as soon as I make my decision but as of right now, I still have my XBOX 360 version preordered.

XBOX 360 - Waffle Stompers
PS3 - Kreatzion

I originally planned getting it for the Magnavox Odyssey, but that version had some compression issues, nevertheless, I'll be getting it for the 360, since I'm still too poor to afford a PS3. *sniffle*

I never thought of that actually. I might do the same thing. Like you, I won't have the money to get both but whenever I can get it, I'll get the other version. I'll ask my best friend to see which one he's getting because I believe he plans on getting a PS3 this month as well.

360 - though by default as I don't own a PS3. Even if I did I think I would buy the 360 version, on the off-chance that the DLC is actually worth spending money for, and because I'm hesitant to give Sony my thumbs up in the form of a game purchase (I'm not elaborating this, this isn't System Wars). Of course, I'm hesitant to buy a game for a system that might break down at any minute, too. Tradeoffs.

I don't know many people with PS3s, either, which makes the 360 version even easier. Really, unless there is a must-have exclusive game, even once I buy a PS3 I won't be multiplatform games for it because everyone I know buys 360 stuff. Makes things easy, I guess.

Definitely the PS3 version, I decided not to renew my Live subscription so it looks like I will be getting most multiplat on ps3. Plus the DS3 is really sexy.

I'm going to get it for PS3. A few reasons:

1) I could give a **** about achievements.

2) I'm not particularly interested in the DLC, since I've ever gotten around to completing 100% of any of my previous GTA's.

3) I need a reason to play my PS3 and use my new Dualshock. :oops:

4) When I do decide to play online, I don't want 10 year olds screaming nursery rhymes in my ears while I'm trying to kick butt. :)

What makes you so sure you aren't going to run into that kind of situation for the PS3?:P I know that the Live is infamous for its immature community, but that issue is universal. Might be impossible to escape.

Obviously everyone will have different experiences, but I've had less encounters with racist 12-year old homophobes on PSN than I have on XBL, by a large margin. It's not a huge reason for me getting the PS3 version, but it is a factor.

Pre-ordered it on PS3, just because I can get it cheaper, by paying for it in dollars. I'll still get the 360 version once it hits, of course.

Do you want actual reasons as to why? Or just taking a list of who is buying which version? Since this thread is beginning to turn into a poll, I am going to actually say why I am choosing the version I will be buying. The first couple reasons will be game and version specific, and the last few will be console specific. I am getting the game on 360.

1. The X360 was the lead development platform for GTA4.

2. Exclusive episodic content which we have been lead to believe will be quite significant.

3. Achievements. Achievements are something I initially did not care about, and I had no interest in getting them until about a year ago when they held a challenge offering prizes to those that could raise their gamerscore by a certain amount in a set period of time. Ever since then it has been less about bragging rights and having the highest "arcade" score, than it is about keeping a documented record of all the games I've beaten, what difficulty I was good enough to beat them at, what skill marker I'm at, etc. And allowing others to see all of these accomplishments in a convenient profile. This dawned on me while I was going back and playing FEAR on PC one day and thinking to myself "why bother? This isn't going towards anything. I could be playing this game on another platform that will at least give me some sort of recognition for completing this game or completeing various 'hardcore' challenges".

4. XBL. Is there really anything else that needs to be said? Anyone that is even half serious about online console gaming is using XBL. If I'm going to play online in GTA4, it might as well be done right.

5. The 360 controller. Not only is the 360 controller widely accepted as the best traditional controller in gaming generations, but it is easily one of the best I've ever used. It comes with rumble as a standard (yes I know Sony offers a controller with rumble now but that's more money out of the pocket for a feature that should've been standard in my opinion), the analogue triggers are vastly superior to the competition, and the off-axis, concaved analogue sticks are practically a necessity for games that require the user to control the camera in some fashion as is the case for most games these days, including GTA.

If you have a choice, or already own both systems, I can't think of a single reason why anyone would go with the PS3 version of this game.
