I'm due to get a new PC in the next few days and it should be something that can run either of these games on a pretty impressive detail level.

I've played a little WoW and quite enjoyed it whilst I played but didn't have enough time to commit to a pay per-month model so I'm looking to give one of these two games a go. I don't have massive amounts of time to commit but could certainly manage a good few hours each week. I'm not massively in to getting together in big guilds and playing for hours everynight but want something where I can interact with others a bit but also enjoy a good solo story.

So... tips? Which of these two is best? My initial feeling is GW2, the reviews seem very positive and I'm a bit worried SW:TOR has been around for a while and really hasn't ever taken off.

Cheers.

I have really been enjoying SW:TOR, and I would discount reports of it not taking off. I have been playing that game since its release and it is getting busier and busier all the time. In fact, due to my horrible insomnia, I signed on this morning at 4am and was shocked at how busy the servers were (FYI: I live on the west coast and was on a west coast server).

Definitely Guild Wars 2. SWTOR is dead at this point. GW2 has died down a little bit after the initial rush, but there are still lots of people. And even if you play solo, there's so much content that you can do on your own that is fun anyway.

I played both and I can say GW2 is by far better. I solo'd most of each and I ended up quiting SWTOR because it got boring. Worlds are pretty dead too. Sadly, I think because they try too hard to make these games appeal to the casual crowd to have a bigger launch base but, they end up dying fast.

It's really hard to maintain longgevity when people cam max level within 1 day of its launch. I think also the de-emphasis on party play kills it too. Sure its fun to solo, but I think to keep a game going. Relationships with other people are needed, and you really get that in parties. Plus, fights are more or less just spamming w/o rhyme or reason.

Right now I've been TOR and the fanbase is not nearly as much as they'd let you believe.

GW2 is of course still pretty fresh.

Eventually, I'd try both but would recommend GW2 first.

I think Guild Wars 2 is better - but if you'll choose Star Wars - I recommend you to play KOTOR.
