1st READ THE MANUAL! You don´t have to press a button to talk.I don´t know what´s wrong with your headset, but if I talk everyone hears me.
2nd Yeah, not everyone talks while playing which is not always good, but in Gears of War you had more singing kids or swearing idiots then anything else.Halo 2 was not muchbetter.
3rd What´s your problem anyway?Did you search for a certain thing just to bash the game?Plus the "press button to talk"-feature is nothing new.It was also in Battlefield 2,because if 24 or less people talking all the time you don´t understand a thing, plus it gets laggy as hell in most games.
Maybe you just sucked online or you can´t concentrate babbling all the time, but I can live with it and it´s no reason to complain. In a 4 against me match I need my brain to kill them off not my mouth.Yeah I also wondered a bit about it too,but since 90% of all people use Voice-Chats only for talking crap,it´s not that bad...I bet after some time it will change anyway.
1st-yes you do have to press a button to talk in most games, your clearly playing the smaller games. 2nd-well you can mute people in halo 3. so your point is irrelvent, plus as you said 90% of people talk, so you may not care, but the other 90% of people do. as its a mass market product then its a badly designed feature. 3rd - your clearly a fanboy to some degree, considering you assume im a fanboy trying desperatly to mock the game, if i wanted to point out it flaws, trust me i could mention a hell of alot more then this feature. 4th- the d-pad to talk feature may not be new, it doesnt mean that its a good feature. also tonnes of people talking dont acutlaly cause lag, it doesnt work that way. 5th- i do suck at online, i enjoy laughing and taking the piss out of some extreme weridos, mainly americans or children but considering your clearly both, maybe ill turn my sights on to you next time.1st READ THE MANUAL! Some valid points there, even though I don't like voice chatting that much. Still, this is only an issue in huge matches, no?nopalversionto discribe 16 players as a huge match is perhaps the wrong term. but it doesnt work with 12 players either.
Don´t get me wrong,I don´t think the Button-Feature is a goog thing and I didn´t need to press one talking with my teammates, and if in other matches the Button keeps me from hearing a other-player´s girlfriend-phone call it´s not that bad (ok,ok it´s sometimes funny :P).that most people are not talking is kinda strange and sometimes it gets under if you have a button, but I don´t think that´s a point to complain so much about.
At least I don´t need to hear a french or spanish guy talk all the time (Happens if you live in Europe...).Makes me crazy.I think it´s a problem that could be solved with a Match-Choosing-feature,which is the only reason I could really complain. You see the match, you see the chat language and you know who you´re playing with...If you get in a match you don´t know who you´re playing with, everyone who can´t speak good english shut´s up.Lost planet did a Flag of the Country behind the Gamertag, which was very clever.I had some matches everyone was just breathing or stuff like that because they had been afraid of being flamed for bad english I think...Funny thing I only played with germans, like me...I think you get what I mean.
The thing I´m getting mad is the fact that such things like "pressing button to talk" are used to flame games evenignoring it has it´s positive things and not discussing serious stuff.Well I really need to speak only in team-matches (4 vs 4...see,no button to talk) and if I have to say something I can press a button without a problem.Had egnough matches I could understand them blindly thanks to a pretty similar gaming-style.It´s not that kind of a big thing. The problem is more the community right now, then a simple button-press.And keeps still form 8 year old singing kids...nice knowing the next victim, but gets on cost of my concentration.
The more popular game gets, the more singing kids you get it seems.Which means GoW and H3.I like playing them both Online anyway...even if GoW has one of the most annoying communitys I´ve ever met.I don´t need people who ask me if I´m a Nazi just because I´m german or people flaming me as hell on my first game online, just because they are playing it 24/7.In that case I prefer people who don´t have egnough skills to press the "talk" button...I think that´s pretty understandable.
Yeah, this is confusing to me sometimes too. They should just make it so you don't have to press anything, and if you don't want to be heard you switch off your mic for a few seconds. The social aspect of halo is after all one of the great aspects of halo. There should be as much talk as possible :D.
Edit: to the poster above me, there's an option in halo 3 matchmaking to make it priority that you're matched up with people speaking the same language. Very useful if you don't speak english or you can't stand people speaking other languages.
. You don't need to press the d-pad to talk, you press it once (and release) to talk privately to your team instead of everyone. It's pretty useful IMO
as im sure may be one or two people have played halo 3. but im confussed why this d-pad talking feature has..... 1- not been mentioned in reviews 2- not been complained about 3- actually got past the testing stages to actually get in the final product. online is a major part in halo, infact you could argue that its the most important part. and also xbox360 has made voice community a important aspect to gaming. im sure not many would disagree. so here we have a new feature (to my knowledge) whcih sure solves the problem of some 10 year old child huming to themselves. or some one haivng a conversation with someone inside their house, which you shouldnt be hearing. but the d-pad feature causes so many problems. 1- theres a serious lack of conversation. join gears of war, you can join a room and find every one talking. in gears you have roughly 70-80% of users talking. in halo that figure is so much lower. some games have everyone talking and others have none? why is this, because they do not know HOW to talk 2- its darn confusing. if you dont know how to talk in halo 3, you can feel ignored, whcih is darn rude, expectioanlly when your playing with people youve been playing gears with for months 3- no one talks, talk to some one in the lobby where you dont have to press a button to talk. and you can have a conversation. i have done on many occassions, maybe talking about rhino love. but as soon as these people start the game its silence. why is this? perhaps the interest in a rhino's usage of their genitals had sloped? whcih i wouldnt disagree with. or more likly people dont know how to talk. this is clearly the case. playing halo 3 on launch night me and my friends noticed "no one was talking" only in a smaller matches where you didnt have to press any buttons to talk where people communicating. 4- wit can go unrecognised. my sharpe wit is usless, because you have to press a button to say anything. and its not natural. also people like others to laugh at their jokes, i sure as hell do, and so do others. its werid to press the d-pad just to laugh, and i refuse to do it. 5- it could infact be argued it interupts the gameplay, and it does, because you have to take your thumb awy fromt he analog stick. so if your moving around and your in a spot of bother and need some assistance. then you have to stop to call for help from others, while doing so you get killed by one of thoses stupid swords. i cant think of any more problems with this system except that the two and only two perks are not perks. 1- kids not singging and humming? well they do that any way, thats right a little kid press the d-pad so he could hum to himself......why? admittedly you can mute them, whcih i always do now. 2- not hearing conversations you shouldnt. well this perk is really not a perk as for the fact "you can turn the mic off". if your having a conversation with your parents or friends, and dont want other online to hear it, turn the mic off! its a little swicht and really easy to access. so basically halo3's d-pad talking feature, has a TON of problems it causes, the main one being no social interaction (which is the main reason alot of people play these games) and it has no perks. so if you have any flaws that i have not mentioned, please do so. if you have any perks to the feature, then please mention them also.feel_freetwo
The system works and you are proof. The reason no one talks is because 99% of the banter is useless distraction.
The system works and you are proof. The reason no one talks is because 99% of the banter is useless distraction. Large_Sodai would consider (and some agree) xboxlive the new "darts" of this generation. and playing darts or pool is not a competitive thing you talk banter while playing. so for you to say that is stupid. and im pretty sure your not a very interesting person to begin with, so save us fro your banter about paint, and paint drying and the different colours of paint. ive provided strong proof of why people dont talk, the very fact that people talk on gears but not halo suggests its all to do with this new d-pad feature and not your half arsed excuse.
well you only talk for a small period of time. and this just furthers the actual compilcations of the design, theres team chat and public chat?. maybe, although its a option whcih shouldnt of even gotten in to the designPress the button to talk???
I haven't had to do that in any game I've played (of Halo 3). Is that an option that the host has to set?

well im british, so i get alot of "do you drink tea" and yes i do, its a nice drink. although im sure you get even more ignorant americans insulting you for your nationality. so i can acutally understand why voice community has been tainted for you knowing that information. its a really shame.Don´t get me wrong,I don´t think the Button-Feature is a goog thing and I didn´t need to press one talking with my teammates, and if in other matches the Button keeps me from hearing a other-player´s girlfriend-phone call it´s not that bad (ok,ok it´s sometimes funny :P).that most people are not talking is kinda strange and sometimes it gets under if you have a button, but I don´t think that´s a point to complain so much about.

As long as you´re in a "small" 4vs4 Match you don´t have to.In Big Team Battle you have to press a button, and choose that way if you want to talk to your team or everyone. In single matches you have to do it too,but for me that´s not the problem because I don´t have the time to talk anyway.Exept when I´m killed. And then I have the time to press on the D-Pad...

Oh wow you're hilarious, you know that I'm not interesting, and that I love to watch paint dry. Is that witty banter you were referring to that gets unnoticed? If so, I retract everything I said! Open up the mic, let this guy have an open forum to say whatever he wants, cause it's gold.
Get into a real game of Halo with competitive people and talk tactics and stragety and it is a different game. I'd actually prefer no talking to the typical gay/race bashing that happens adnauseum in Gears or other games.
The D-Pad method was clearly put in there to keep blabbermouths at bay and promote a "use it when necessary" approach. Is it the most practical approach? No. But it's the lesser of two evils.
Yes, I have a way to make it better. Instead of people bashing it and all that fun stuff, go practice using your pointer finger to move the left analog stick while you use your thumb to press the d-pad when you seriously need to talk.
It's not very hard, and you get used to it rather quickly after doing it for a few matches. If you can't do it and think it's hard to do, then get some skill. Don't blame Halo 3 on your lack of skill :P
Why must you call us "ignorant americans". You complain about being asked about drinking tea and then you pop out with that. I understand that alot of the gamers are american and kids but you don't help it by being rude.
As for the mic issue, I don't use it much anyway. I can't stand people talking in my ear while i am trying to frag. I don't mind it in team modes , and the button press seems to be a decent method of controlling blabber mouths.
it was claerly i was refering to the ignorant americans, no americans in general. or maybe you are proud of being one of thoese ignorant americans who feel its still funny to mock german people for the 1930s-40s. well actually you can mute blabber mouths, and the d-pad doesnt solve the issue, theirs still blabbler mouths, who will press the d-pad to express random nonsense, they exist out there. and most importantly its a casual game for casual gaming and not constant competitive play whcih all you people are basically going on about. if you dont want to hear nonsense, you dont have to, gears doesnt force you to. you can turn the volume off, you can mute people. for all the issues you people who are positive on the idea, there are solutions for you. sadly this isnt the same case for people who are negative. whcih actually some what suggests your biased. Why must you call us "ignorant americans". You complain about being asked about drinking tea and then you pop out with that. I understand that alot of the gamers are american and kids but you don't help it by being rude.

You are aware this system was probably implemented because people were fed up with 9 year olds saying "Oh yeah i f****** pwned you, you stupid f****** n00bs. LOL. Ha ha ha. All of you are s***." I'm glad they did it.james28893mute them. press the select button and then select the name and press x. and actually there is alot less children who play these games now-a-days.
