I like Half-Life better because gameplay matters most. I have to applaud Halo on co-op. It is so fun playing that with my friends.

Story should go to Half Life, in my opinion. And graphics on both are equal.
While I really liked the Half-Life games I ended up enjoying the Halo games more. Halo 3 is my number one favourite FPS right now.Archangel3371
COD4 is my favorite fps. Then Crysis. Then possibly Halo 3.

Yeah CoD4 is a pretty awesome game and I'm loving that right now too. Haven't played Crysis yet but from what I've seen and heard on the game looks fantastic. Wouldn't mind playing it sometime down the road.

Oh yeah, CoD4's campaign rocked, but the SP is where it really shines. Need to start playing that with my friends.
As for the topic, Half-Life, no question. I haven't played too much (plan to do more when I have free time over the summer), but I absolutely loved what I saw. Plus, Halo is the most overrated mediocre game I've ever seen. I has some great features (Forge, replays, screenshots, customizable characters, granted PC games have had most of these forever), but the overall gunplay is pretty bad, maybe average at best IMO.

Isn't Treyarch working on CoD5? Anyway they must be sweating bullets right now trying to make sure it won't disappoint CoD4 fans.
Halo will never give out to Half-Life. Anyways, Halo sounds better than Half-Life. If you play boss battle games, Half-Life sounds like you go in to every boss battle with only half of your regular health meter.
Comparing the two is like... Not sane. Half Life was a big step up for shooters in general, while Halo was a good shooter that sold quite well, but didn't really change much.
In the end: Half Life > Halo
Half-Life by far. I've always seen the Halo series as being a generic FPS with little to no variety. Half-Life 2 however was a very cinematic experience filled with interesting puzzles, objectives and set pieces. It was the thinking man's FPS. Silent-Hal
If you want a "thinking man's fps" then you'd probably prefer rainbow six and ghost recon over either one of those.

Are we talking about HL1, or HL2. I thought we were talking about HL1. It's story was not that good. While Halo has a story about trying to discover what is happening on the ring. Halo had better story. However, if we are talking about HL2, then HL2 gets better story.
Why even bother to compare the two? Half-Life is a classic that gave the launching pad for games like Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress and the Ship. Halo only redifine the Dual Analog controls for FPS, that's about it.hiphops_savior
How did halo "redefine" dual analog controls? It controls exactly like timesplitters did for ps2 a year before it.
At least Half Life has an intriguing story. Halo is a bunch of standard sci-fi cliches mashed together into a nearly incoherent mess.foxhound_fox
IMO Halo has a much more interesting story. Never been a Marc Laidlaw fan and Bungie have been my favorite storytellers in the industry since Pathways Into Darkness.
But then again I'm a sucker for allusions.

Do you even know what Half-life is?

Yeah, especially since it's apparently going back to WWII. Though I did hear that Treyarch started on CoD5 right after CoD3 so they could make it as awesome as possible. It'll still have to be extremely good to get me to buy another WWII game like Company of Heroes did.
and I meant to say the MP is where it shines. Freudian slip I suppose (when you say one thing and you mean your mother!), if it's possible to type one of those.
On topic, (posting again just for the hell of it) definitely Half-Life. Halo is very mediocre IMO.
