halo vs cod. help me

So, I recently spent 1600 on a new asus G51Vx-A1, don't get me wrong, the laptop is great, but i'm not looking to spend too much on my next game. I started playing age of conan last december, and that will be my main game, but i'm looking for a shooter to play on the side. I have played halo since release, but during the summer, i sold my xbox to my friend because i found that i never was in the mood to play, and halo was the only game that i enjoyed on the xbox. So, with money being tight and all, i wanted to either get the new cod for my laptop, or buy a new xbox so that i can play my halo. All of my friends irl play halo daily, and it would be fun to go back to raping in dbls and such, but the new cod does look sick, and the gameplay will be awesome on the pc. So, any advice? It basically comes down to which is more fun and playable for a long time (I never played cod, but was always against it because..well.. i was a halo fanboy) SO i'm deciding to possibly give it a chance

I'd say if your playing on a computer, play a game like Battlefield 2 or even Day of Defeat: Source, or various mostly-single player games like Crysis, or STALKER. Theres also older games like the first F.E.A.R., and Star Wars: Republic Commando

Then again, I may be saying this because CoD 4 & 5 and Halo just seem like more "console" games, and are more pick-up-and-play-with-friends.
Not that their bad games or anything.

Edit: I guess F.E.A.R. is from the same year as Battlefield 2. But yeah. So ignore the "older" :P
I think Republic Commando might be from 2005 too...
