I was just pondering to myself recently wether i was hardcore or one of those infamous casual gamers.

So my question to you is, do you think your a hardcore gamer or a casual gamer and why do you fit into that specific class of gamer?

I'm consider myself a hardcore gamer because I specialize in certain games and use up most of my free time playing games.Casuals play for fun, sometimes, I have beaten the same game over and over which takes out the fun factor but I still play it for the sake of gamer. I know all the glitches and bugs in some games and know how to exploit it to my advantage. Is that good enough? I think so.

Hardcore all the way and the way I see it, ever since I was kicked off this site. We were here, before this industry decided it needed to appeal more to p***yass gamers, that aren't any good, so they can make more money. I've been around for a long time, in this industry, before video games became a multi-billion dollar industry with all these idiots running around saying look at me, I play Halo, I'm a gamer. I can accept the fact that there are two obvious camps but I can't accept the fact that the industry I grew up with has changed so radically over money. People are selling their souls to get more money. Brother, I can't decide whether you are hardcore or casual. Only you can decide that. why do you fit into that specific class of gamer? Because, I've owned seventeen systems, played well over a thousand video games, finished nearly three hundred games, written well over two hundred game-related songs, lists, articles and more. That and if I could freeze time, I would freeze it, so I could play and finish every game ever made.

If you can look at the Gamespot levels and identify either all of most of the ranks, then you are definitely hardcore. Like your rank Snake Eater is obviously a referrence to Metal Gear Solid 3's Snake Eater, mine is a referrence to Midway's classic arcade game Root Beer Tapper and coughing is a reference to "Midway's" arcade water tube riding hit Toobin' (I believe it was Midway), which was made for the NES by Tengen as an unlicensed game and Nintendo even sued em, I believed. and Sonny Minchin's rank name is the title of one of the NES's first games, which was actually developed by Square, Rad Racer. I believe, that a good enough definition for ya??

If you're posting on a video game message board, you're definitely more in the hardcore crowd. A "casual" gamer is someone who just goes and buys a game without doing any research, and it's typically either a sports game or a halo game lol.

I'm not sure being hardcore necessarily means you play every game enough to have knowledge on most games that exist, as everyone has different tastes.
For me I consider myself hardcore as it is my biggest hobby, I spend a lot of time playing and keeping up to date with news etc. basically being enthusiastic about it.

Definitely a casual gamer. With school getting in the way, I spend most of my days in the library, at the gym, or at work, and by the time I get home - all I want to do is eat and sleep!

I'm hoping that upon graduating in May, I'll have some more time to play. :}

I consider myself as "hardcore".I don´t buy every crap just because of it´s name and play a lot.Of course there are more important things in my life then gaming, but it takes a really big spot in my freetime, even if I don´t skip a party just for playing if I can afford to go.

Casuals just play games and don't nitpick like hardcores do. The market changes according to casuals taste even though their interest in mediums is shallow and not deep as hardcores. Since we all talk about games here I guess most of us are hardcores. Casuals don't waste time talking about games xD

well,my first systems were atari2600 and colecovision.I had a NES,SMS,Genesis,Supernintendo,PS1,2,3,sega saturn,N64,gamecube,XBOX,XBOX360.I sold my 360 to pay bills when I got sick and went out of work,my PS3 blew up and i am still not working so I haven't got it fixed yet,so I am playing old XBOX getting around to playing last gen games I skipped, and replaying the GTA trilogy for the umpteenth time. I also got the refrences of eternalgamer, and remember the nintendo/tengen lawsuit which I believe also included an unauthorized version of tetris.

Gaming is a way of life for me,but I do not classify myself,in fact my XBOX live zone I chose recreation. Am I a hardcore gamer? you tell me.

Well I do have a notepad file in my docs inwhich I have listed what games to get and/or play for 2009 and what I need to finish spanning over 9 systems. I'd imagine that would fit into "Hardcore".

I really don't know what to call my self. I am all about games and new gadgets, but I am not obsessed about a certain game or play a single game non-stop. I don't even work much to get my achievements. If they pop in my way thats fine, if not, I don't care really.

I was hardcore but now that I work with games I think I'm more of a casual player. Though I still play "hardcore games", but not in a "hard core way" (I mean I play games like Gears of War, Halo 3, Mirror's Edge and so on, but mostly just one time)

I'm not really sure. Games have been one of my main hobbies since the Atari days and I tend to keep up with what's going on within the industry. But, I typically don't play many games more than once, and I typically only play games because they're fun. I don't really care if I'm considered "hardcore" or "casual". It would be like making a distinction between a "hardcore" and "casual" reader of books.

I would consider myself fairly hardcore, but not super hardcore. I dont own 1000 games or something, probably only about 35 in total. the types of games I like are RTS, RPGs, FPSs and I hate sports games.

a hardcore gamer can enjoy both old and new games, casual gamers generally laugh at older games, without even playing them first.

finally a harcore gamer can name/recognise, various franchises in gaming, casual gamers wont know anything outside "pac man and Mario".

since i can enjoy old and new games and name various franchises as well as play more traditional types of games, I suppose I am quite hardcore

I am a casual. I play at free time, I have social life :P. If I can't compete with AI in FPS shooting then I simply use trainers :D. But few games I take seriously - like, DoW series, CnC and football manager series

Well....back before I was married with children I was pretty much a hardcore gamer, I would play around 40+ hours a week. Now that alone wouldn't have made me a hardcore gamer but I would replay many of the games multiple times or I'd play online for hours on end just to get better at the games I played. I would get together with friends and we'd talk about mostly games. Now I'm pretty much a casual gamer and only play anywhere from 5 - 10 hours a week on average. I just can't see taking that much time away from my family and friends now.

I guess I'm a hardcore gamer, but I like any game that's good; yet, I can be considered casual because I think games should focus on the fun factor rather than competition. But oh...well, I miss co-op when it was off-line.

I'm hardcore, as most can probably tell. I have every system including handhelds for this generation. If I get a social life again I don't know if I'll be playing as much as I use to. Hopefully so, because I do enjoy my pastime.

I consider myself hardcore because it's more than just a hobby for me. It's a lifestyle. I don't just buy games and play them. I collect them, I write about them. I post about them. I even honor them. *looks at sig* :P

I'd rather not be a hardcore gamer because they look down on sports games on the whole, especially sport sims (check out Giant Bomb's year in review awards for confirmation of that). But I guess I am since I check out the gaming sites.

I've been playing games since Frogger and Pong I don't think anyone can even consider themselves a Hardcore gamer until they've been playing games for at least 5 years that shows commitment. That doesn't mean you have to go back and beat mario 3, megaman, silver surfer or Nija Gaiden(Never beat that one) to qualify but know this games used to be way harder in the case of Megaman that was a good thing but for the most part developers have replaced Cruel Challange with innovative gameplay and puzzles which for the most part is a good thing.

I'm neither.

I consider myself a Well Informed Gamer. One who reads up on gaming trends, etc.

2_Quiet_2_Riot

Don't be in denial. Well informed is hardcore. Belonging to Gamespot is hardcore. Being called a nerd because "you know too much about games" is hardcore. One of us, one of us, one of us!!!

I'm neither.

I consider myself a Well Informed Gamer. One who reads up on gaming trends, etc.

I love pretty much all types of genre, except RPGs, can't stand them. But I'm more into FPS and classic Nintendo games (my 360 and Wii are mostly played) I missed out on so many games in the past and really don't classify myself as being too hardcore. But I'm definitely waaaayyy above the casuals who don't know better in regards to gaming.

2_Quiet_2_Riot

you're neither a 'casual' gamer nor a 'hardcore' gamer, but you're still 'above' the 'casuals'? above them makes it sound as if you're putting yourself in a hierarchy, rating yourself as better than others simply because you've had more game-playing history.
