Personally I am a HUGE fan of the Final Fantasy Series.

I played Phantasy Star IV for Sega Genesis and never ever returned from the customizable world of an RPG.

Two people play a game and win.

Yet their data compared shows 2 different approaches, levels, as well as the entire game looking not at all identical.

I am currently playing Oblivion.

I had no time on my hands when it came out and it was recommended that I play it for it's customized engine.

I need more..

I use PC primarily.

I want to hear the favorite games from you all...

RPG SPECIFIED!!!

If you do not know the Phantasy Star IV or Final Fantasy VII games, please don't even post.

Games that make you an RPG fan also include:

Sword of Vermillion (Genesis)

Breath of Fire 3 (PSOne)

Lunar: Silver Star Story (PSOne)

Castlevania: Symphony of the night (PSOne)

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2 (PC, Xbox)

Zelda (There are alot of systems supporting it)

....

But I still need more.

I need newer.

I could care less about Crysis.

Unless I can buy materia, or level up, or sleep at an inn, or gain meseta, or don the Blood Cloak.

Good RPGs on PC...well the list is really small for me.On the PS2 I could at least say Dragon Quest 8 (best since years) or Digital Devil Saga, but on PC I think most play like MMORPGs or Hack´n Slays...

BTW I finished almost all games from your list :D

I do appreciate the quick responses.

I also like SirSpudly for recognizing the whole PC ONLY portion of my entry.

Ash2x says he has finished most of my games...

Hmmm...

That sounds good.

I have a Ps2 and I HAD a 360 but gave it up for a video card for the PC.

Lol.

Let me know

In case of MMORPG I play ony Free-2-Play-ones.Rappelz or 9Dragons for example. If you like Anime-Styled games maybe take a look at Dream of Mirror Online (aka DOMO) or,if you like 2D,Trickster seems very nice. There are A LOT out there somaybe just try some with a second E-Mail-Adress.Costs nothing anyway.

I forgot to mention Grandia. The 1st is still my favourite RPG (too bad that the better Saturn-Version only came out in Japan),Grandia 2 is just beautiful and unbeliveable funny (as long as you play the PC or DC-Version) and Grandia 3 has a weak Story, but the Gameplay and Character-Acting in the Cutscenes transfer it absolutely awesome.

Throw in BG2 and Throne of Baal and you have at least a thousand hours of quality rpg gaming right there.

PC: Fable, Alien Shooter: Vengence (has good RPG influences), Fable 2 (soon), and The Bard's Tale was pretty funny.

Uh If you want some console games, try Xenogears, Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits, Champions: Return to Arms, Magna Carta, Front Mission 3 & 4, Star Ocean (Second Story & Til the end of time) Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter.

I didn't pay attention to the rest of the thread... but Final Fantasy 7 and 8 were released for the PC. And they are about as JRPG as you can get.

Honestly, no RPG really satisfied me since we entered PS2 era.

Many were good enough for my interest and entertainment, but none were good enough to worship it unlike SNES and PS1 era.

Xenogears isn't on your list, so I suggest you to try that. Breath of Fire 3 to me was 2nd worst of the series, so try first and fourth.

On PS2 era, the RPG series I was most fond of was Shadow Hearts series. Disgaea series is also neat.

I agree with my psone friends here.

Ps2 and xbox called for a war of machine ability, gamecube was on the list to restore it, but never did.

We will see..

Symphony of the Night an RPG? That's like saying Genji is an RPG.

Anyway, I like traditional old school RPGs more. DQ VIII is a great example of new-school meeting old-school. FFXII was the last great newer RPG I've played. It truly was a great blend of how old-school RPGs would be in a full 3D setting.

Suikoden II, Chrono Cross, and FFVI are great past RPGs that are on my all-time favorite list.

First to ammend my friend TriangleHard, you have stated the exact nature of the world at stake.

Not just video games. I am severly impressed with that outlook on it.

The internet has ruined much more than that.

Yes ASK_Story Castlevania, where you can go where you please, level up, customize your weapon use and what not is NOT REALLY an RPG, but nonetheless, Rpg gamers love it. I would like to hear more of what YOU like more than anything.

I see that Castlevania is a big favorite for many.

Tell me yours.

I am probably going to play: Fallout or some of the others that have been mentioned.

But I want to hear WHAT and WHY??!!

Tell me your game and what made it special to you!

I will repost this in game discussuion Topic title "Our games and our lives..."

Yeah, the PC games are mostly other genres... There are lots of options on consoles-handhelds... Now I do all my RPG on the PSP.

For the PC, I could say KOTOR, Planescape was good, but boring for me

Have you guys gotten any experience with them...?

What are the costs?

Which ones feel customizable to the point of extreme...?

SeanSpade

I've mostly played World of Warcraft and Guild Wars.

World of Warcraft allows for customization, but it's mostly in equipment, which is obtained by Diablo-style farming and can get pretty dull. There is skill customization, but it results in the same three main builds per class and no one's really distinct from one another.

Guild Wars' high-level equipment is all identical in terms of the protection it offers, you can just apply a rune and inscription of your choosing to grant a minor stat boost. Its customization comes from the skills, which range from spells to attacks to curses and hexes, and you can only bring 8 along with you into an area/dungeon/PvP battle. Everyone has their main character class and can pick a secondary class (and change it at will) they feel has skills that fit well or suit their play style.

There's a bizarre sort of card-game style skill management, taking into account the other players or your AI heroes' skills, the enemy skills, and choosing the best 8 to augment and counter opposing skills. Coupled with a relatively low end-level cap (20) it means that most of the game requires strategy rather than grinding, which is a nice change from every other MMORPG out there.

One could argue that it's not a MMORPG at all, of course, since the world isn't persistent, death penalties can be worn down by earning experience, areas are instanced, and you can fast travel to any city or outpost you've been to by clicking on the map. The story also plays out in canned missions, which have more in common with a single-player RPG.

Symphony of the Night an RPG? That's like saying Genji is an RPG.ASK_Story

Well, Alucard has HP, can get EXP and level increasing his stats (STR, CON, INT and LCK), equip various kinds of weapons with different effects (Thunderbrand, Firebrand, Icebrand, Terminus Est, etc), can get status effects (Curse, Poison, Stone, etc) and can get Familiars that level with him. It is a very basic "RPG" in terms of stats but like with most JRPGs, that is all they have that supposedly define them as "role-playing games." Symphony of the Night is a hybrid action-sidescroller/RPG/platformer.

As for a truly amazing role-playing experience on PC, you MUST play Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines.
