In the past 5 years, I have had 2 Internet friends die.

One was a 16 year old kid I met on Halo 2, I knew and talked to him a lot for many months. He was also friends with my real friends at high school. One day I got on TeamSpeak to talk to some friends from school. I asked where that kid was *name omitted* and they said that he killed himself.

I thought they were joking, so I just laughed and logged off. Well, he never logged back onto xbox live or any game ever again. My friend from school confirmed, he killed himself. The last game I ever played with him was HorseLand and we were laughing it up. I never suspected there was anything wrong with him. I don't know why he did it. He's been dead for 5 years now. He never got to see Halo 3 or the Xbox360.

The other friend I had, I knew him on Stickam. One night he OD'd on DXM. I got a call in the morning from one of his friends crying and saying that he had just died in his arms on the way to the hospital. They found him passed out, turning blue and he never woke up. He was only 17. I had him as a friend on myspace also, now where his whole family has posted their goodbye messages. Why did he have to throw his life away like that.

:(

No, not at least ones that I was close to or cared about. But there was a big hoopla on the Bahamut Server in FFXI when some guy died in a big linkshell (guild).

I did get worried when a friend on WKC who is on like... EVERY day wasn't on for a week. Turns out real life stuff was going on, but the reason why I was so concerned was that I didn't get any message nor did any of our other mutual friends.

Not yet. I've sometimes wondered how hard would it hit me if such a thing happened. Throughout the years, I've grown to appreciate and care about a good number of often faceless people with which I only interact through the internet. I've learned about their real life issues, personal life, hopes and illusions. In a sense, they're even closer to me than many of my real life friends, which I left when changing cities and haven't kept contact with. So I guess I would feel bad if it happened. How bad? Don't really know.

Never had anyone I considered a friend online, but I had a friend who got killed by a drunk driver about 5 years ago. Unfortunately that's just the way life is. You have to be willing to help yourself and swallow your pride to keep yourself alive.

No but, I don't know if this counts, there was this guy running a small independent gaming website I regularly visited and when he recently died of cancer I almost felt like a friend had passed away. Rudy 'Caiman' Versele, always in our hearts :)

I've told internet friends more things about me than I've probably told my parents or best real life friends. And who is to say these people aren't as good as friends as someone you can drive over to their house and watch TV with?

I had a few people talk about suicide but I doubt they were being serious.

Yes, one of the coolest guys I played WoW with took his own life. It sucked real bad and was stunning because nobody saw it coming and would have guessed he was in that mindset.
