The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Im thinking of buying it. I watched the video review but he didn't do a very good job.
Can anyone tell me the key features of the game?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
It's a bit like Fallout 3 but in a fantasy setting.
It's an open-ended more "Western" RPG...so kind of sandbox.
The side-quests are what sell this game. Also, there are shorter travel times than previous Elder Scroll games.
The major flaw in Oblivion according to many (myself included) is that the dungeons/enemies/loot scale to your level.
I played Oblivion on the PC and finished the main quest without doing many side quests in around 13 hours...
I then bought the GOTY edition on PS3 and spent dozens of hours only on side quests...the Dark Brotherhood quests were especially memorable, although dark.
Overall, I would say Obvlivion has many more strengths than it has weaknesses.
There is a lock picking and persuasion many game...
Finally, I'm suprised that anyone has NOT played Oblivion. It is kind of a landmark in RPGs and pretty much a classic.
I think you owe it to yourself to give it a try; unless you do not like open-ended RPGs.

But that can be eliminated by installing a simple mod, so you (TC) ought to get the PC version if you want to have a choice between level scaling (which means that enemies are never very hard or very easy, no matter where you go in the world) or static levels. And that's in addition to all the other great mods you can get which allow you to tweak the game to your liking.
I've been gaming since the mid-80's, and I'd put Oblivion in my top 10 all-time favorite games. The real joy of the game comes in exploring and doing all the side quests. I've played the game with three different characters and took on completely different quests with each one based on how I built him/her and spent over 50 hours on each one alone, totaling my play time to over 150 hours. I built a good guy warrior type character that I did the fighters guild, combat arena, and main quest with; then I built a stealthy thief/assassin type character that I used for some of the morally repressive quests like those of the thieves guild and assassin's guild, and then I built a magic-type character taking on the quests of the mage's guild and having fun building all these custom spells. Great game, through and through.UT_Wrestler
That's a great idea.
I think I'm going to replay as a stealth and then magic user. To date, I only have used the fighter archetype in both Morrowind and Oblivion.
