Has anyone used a VGA converter/scaler to play their older systems on an HDTV?

(Saturn, N64, Dreamcast, etc) With something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=350248825829

If so, what have beenyour results? Is the upgrade in picture quality over standard composite video significant enough to justify buying one of these?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The question is, is the upscaler better than the upscaler built into your TV.

I would suggest finding a review for the product you are thinking of buying. I have read that some such devices have issues with screen tearing and such.

It could also be that the difference in quality isn't all that different.

I wouldn't buy the product unless you can find a good review of it first.

Wouldn't trust it. My guess is that the resulting image would be on par with or worse than one scaled by your HDTV. Many of those devices also have issues with odd resolutions and will often not output a signal at all. The SNES has some games with bizarre resolutions (Secret of Mana comes to mind but I know there are others) and some PS1 and N64 games do it too.

The thing about what you posted is ... it only has video input ... But, on composite cords the sound is right next to the video, so how would that work? Not very well.

I think something like this would work better but not sure if it'll produce a better picture than your HDTV's upscaler. I'm not about to fork up the 120 to find out either.
