If gaming is improving something about your life besides your point-and-click skills, then I think you need to go outside.

Sure. I'll go with this by saying that games have succeeded in fulfilling my overall happiness. Outside of that though my life hasn't been improved in any significant way.

I learned basic English through gaming and reading the dialogue in RPG's when I was little. With the help of my father of course, I always asked him whats the meaning of this word or that word when I couldn't understand a sentence said in the game. I also learned a bit about how to structure my sentences by taunting bots in Quake 3 (if I remember right, you had to write properly to get a good reply out of them, otherwise they just wouldn't understand you)

That's more or less how I started learning English, I learned all the advanced stuff from my teachers at school, obviously.

It helped me with English language. English isnt my native language and some videogames (MGS series, Heavy Rain and more) have lots of dialogues and stuff which somewhat improves my English skills.

Hell yeah. You see, it's not every day that there is a war or an alien/zombie invasion going around in which you can just sign in and fight a bit without the fear of dying, for every time it happens you just respawn. ;) So, PC games let you get away for a while, feel some excitement and have a great load of fun.

PC games have opened my views and interests in many things. e.g: While I was playing Medieval: Total War I used to read a lot of books about those ages. Call of Duty opened a new perspective of WW2 for me and even now, WW2 isoneof myfavourite subjects - I have seen almost every WW2 documentary on TV and Youtube.

Helped me make a lot of good friends who are gamers themselves.

PC games are just a new way of having fun. To all people who are not gamers and find video games dumb: ACCEPT THE EVOLUTION!!!

In a word. Yes. I've been playing games for as long as I can remember - my Amstrad was thoroughly worn out by the time I was about 6. I'm not going to claim that gaming has ever "saved" me from something horrible... but what it does is give me release. A release from everyday drudgery, a release from a country (UK) that seems to get more obsessed with "real life" every day. Television no longer gives us the spur of imagination that it once did. I could go on for hours about that - but I digress. Gaming is imagination - gaming is fun - gaming is social - and yes, gaming can improve you. The interaction with a story-driven game draws you in unlike any other platform. The competition of multi-player gives you enthusiasm to progress and become sharper, quicker and smarter. So its not the dexterity of your (now-worn-out) thumbs... or how fast you can click the mouse - its applying that stream of concious to your everyday life. I made my school exams a game - told myself it was just like winning a level - and dontcha know... it worked.... Turn it into something you can relate to, turn it into a competition. What worked for me over all these years may not work for you - i know plenty of people that may be better off ebaying their xboxes.... but not me! Anyway - I'd be pretty stuck without the release. Cheers. Haha - I've almost convinced myself! BooYA!

I don't play games to find any real fulfillment. I think it is neat to be able to do incredible actions through a game. For instance I could never go on an epic journey and cast fireballs.

i see it the other way around. My love of fiction and fantasy is improved by gaming since it is an avenue that can be used to act out that which I am already interested in.
