i just had an epiphany a while ago. My friends are asked me : hey u wanna hang were just gonna walk around and stuff. I told them no, I was busy, knowing full well i was in no way busy, at all, in fact i problably had too much time on my hands. As soon as i got home, i popped in MGS4,my first playthrough ( which btw is awsome ) and with all the real life problems and just overall very realistic tones that this game sets on you, i thought to myself : wow, i just played this game 7 hours straight, when i could have been outside with my friends, appreciating life to the fullest. my streets arent so beautiful, but thats not the point. the point is that somehow this game made me feel like im wasting my life, but i still do it anyways. im just reflecting on a week prior and i want to know if u guys have ever felt this way, or what u think about my situation. PS: I'm not trying to say that gamers everywhere are wasting there lives, gaming has been part of my life since i was 4, i'm just reflecting on my own personal thoughts.

Playing games is ok, just don't let it control your life. If it's between hangin' out with my friends or playin' a new game theres no competition (goin out btw :P). Games are best enjoyed played in spare time or saved for a 'Rainy Day'. Wheres the fun in completing the game within 2-3 days?

Games definitely make the world you live in smaller, if that makes sense. They give the ultimate false sense of accomplishment. How many times have you beat a really tough boss, level or game and thought, wow, I did it. But really what did you do? You pushed some buttons and made some pictures move around on the screen. True you have participated in a story, and that in itself I suppose could under the right circumstances be inspiring. But really the only thing you have accomplished is entertaining yourself for a few hours.

Video Games... Video games... Video Games... Video games... Video Games... Video games......

Im not addicted... >.> but seriously, the world outside can be much more fascinating then any game, but games in their own way have that wonderful enjoyment. Wither or not a game is wasting your life or not depends on how ambicious you are, if you're goal in life is simply enjoy it, and you really enjoy video games, then I suppose in some way its not wasting it. Yet do feel bad after an 8-10 hour marathon... holy crap is that sun? Wow...

Pfft... I wish it were more of my life than it is now. I miss the diversion of playing a game I am really into. Lately, I have time for handhelds and little else, and even that time isn't significant.

When I was addicted to MMOs, they sure were and my relationships suffered.

But with consoles, I can pause, save or whatever and generally put it down easily. So, when other people ask to do things with me, or I have work, or Karate or whatever else outside of gaming, I do that, but when I have downtime, yea, games are my life. It's my passion. Some people like sports, others like books, etc, I like video games.

I wouldn't say that they are my life, but certainly a large aspect of it. I think if we are truly honest with ourselves, we all have on occasion pondered what we've could have done with the 40 hours we spent completing whatever game we were enthralled with at the time. But as long as you have other interests you partake in (friends, work, family, books, exercise) , video games overtaking your life should never become an issue you have to be concerned with.

No, I keep my game addiction in check....But since I'm on Fall break, I'll have to say I am guilty as well. I am literally infuriated at the fact that I have to sit through an entire work day in order to get back to my PC so I can play countless hours of Fallout 3.

I wouldn't say they have become my life, but they have shaped my alter-ego

I'm in a lot of school activities, but when I come home to unwind, gaming does the trick

i'm on the same boat as you TC. the only usual thing that keeps me away from video games is school. I try to balance it though. I would practice on the drum kit for 30 mins. But that's just 30 mins. Whenever it's not school day, i would spend most of the rest of the day gaming, browsing, and watching anime. Lately, i have not been reading fiction books but soon i'm gonna buy new ones. It's just rare that someone would ask me to go out. i even don't get invitations for a party. so pretty much it's even more boring to go outside since rarely do someone go out with me. i do have friends and close friends. my friends don't bother and my close friends are mostly busy with other things. i only like have 2 close friends who come to my house occasionally to play games with me. Still, video games are a part of my life. Video game is one of my main passions along with music and literature. I have a goal to become a game designer one day in the future.

I have a PS2, so I can't play any of the new stuff. I'm 23 and I am coming to that point where I think maybe I should concentrate on more important things. I could save my money and buy a PS3 (the system I think I want), but then I feel like maybe because I'm older I shouldn't. I just can't help checking up on all of the lastest games to come out. I work and I'm in school and I hold those as my highest priority, but I think I'm going to give in. I'm sure I can find balance if I keep up with my responsiblities. Maybe I might just play the more important games. When are you suppose to quit?

It has not become my life. I get out of the house whenever I can, but in the winter it becomes a lot bigger since I golf in the summer and don't really do anything in the winter.

FFXI claimed me pretty badly. I hate the game for it. But yeah, games are my life. I play them. I write about them. I make no delusions about who I am. Do I have less friends than someone who doesn't game? Probably, but you have introverts and extroverts. Neither is a bad person so long as they're happy with who they are and what they're doing.

No, video games have not become my life by any means. I love to play video games. I really have a great time just relaxing and playing some games for a few hours, but I'm still able to have friends, do my homework, be involved with extracurriculars, enjoy other hobbies, etc.

Games are a big part of my life and I always want them to be. I play games with friends who share the same interests, and i'll rather be spending my time with those people then some townie guy in the club. I work, I look after horsies, I get enough breaks from it that way. I go out occasionally not only to keep grips with reality but because sometimes I want to.

I often gain a gameing addiction and while i'm in that state everything that isn't the game becomes a choire, even eating! Of course, when I have guests or girlfriend around I be sure to give them attention, however often my guests play with me since my friends are mostly gamers also. As for girlie friends, you just have to slowly and discretly convert them.

thanks for all the replies, i had a feeling that maybe i had a rare thought, but it seems everyones pondered this once or twice. I'll never stop playing games, but i think ill spend some time away, ive decided to leave gaming as the very LAST thing i do in the day, take care of all my things, homework, friends, life, then at night just dive in and be myself. to be honest i think it was just MGS4 because of the story and how sad and real it is, it made me want to appreciate life more, again, thanks.

I do what makes me happy. So, if there comes a night that I feel like having a quiet time at home reading a book, watching a movie, and playing some games rather than getting drunk at some place, puking all over people, and making a fool of myself just because that is what some people consider to be "having a life", then I will do just that.

In a way they are. Everyone always makes jokes about how much I play Megaman and 360. But would that stop me fropm going somewhere?! Nope, not at all. That's why I won't be trying to beat Megaman all day during Turkey Day tomorrow. lol

I'd probably STILL be playing MGS4 right now. That's the best game ever made and I had to rush through it b/c my brother who was visiting from out of town was only at my place for about 3 days. So your case actually makes sense. lol

I find standing around yapping to people about a bunch of s*** a waste of time. Much less interesting than being teh ultimate ninja and chopping massive monsters to pieces in fountains of blood. Or being an assassin with infinate amount of lives. Or defeating satan and his labyrinth of doom. Real life is f'ing boring compared to that.

True and I just got Left 4 Dead today At least I played it with my RL friends though, that makes it less loserish...right? Oh well, it's surprising I'm still considered underweight by my doctor and nurse with how much I play.

The only people who would consider you a loser are the kind of guys who jump through hoops to be accepted by their 'friends'. You want me to wear this and watch that, okay! lol

Definitely not my life, but in my spare time I'd say they fill in a good portion of that. In life I have better things to do, read books, go out with friends, study for school, exercise, and work. So whilst they are great to play and what not, if I have the option to do something else where I can get out of the house, or is more beneficial I'll choose that over games every time.
