This isn't a topic debating whether or not violence in video games is a real issue - I'm sure there are plenty of those.

My question is, can you honestly say video games haven't affected you at all?

After playing Metal Gear Solid 2, I was at my friend's apartment complex, and I kept wanting to jump over the rails and hang off the edge, maybe shimmie to the left or right a bit, and then pull myself back up.

Or after playing Resident Evil 4, every door I came up to I wanted to kick it open.

But as for the actual violence... I don't think I've ever wanted to shoot anyone in the head any more than I did before I played those games. But then again, most of the games I play you're shooting people because they are definately out to kill you. I mean, I doubt it'll ever happen, but if someone ever came at me with an axe, and I had a pistol, I'd probably shoot them in the head in real life as well (Well, maybe the kneecap to avoid an instant death.)

No, not really. "Intelligent" games have made me more intelligent, but the concept doesn't apply all across the board.

I'm willing to go with that. I mean, one of the benifits of playing video games as entertainment as opposed to say, watching TV, is that there is actual problem solving and brainwork involved.

Not to turn this into a discussion about the politics of violent games, but I think it was hilarious that that one infamous senator said that the Columbine kids were "Training" on Doom 3D before they came to school and capped everyone.

For the kids too young to remember that game, here's a pretty good video http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-3837166656273072384&q=Doom&total=43330&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=1

I suddenly feel obligated and more prepared to kill all my teachers.

Don't believe what movies say: a wound to the legs can easily be fatal: a bullet to the leg is likely to pierce the femoral artery, causing massive bleeding and death.

To avoid this, don't shoot people at all.

Well, there have been records of soccer balls killing people too.

The point is is that if I actually do manage to hit him in the head, it's nearly gaurenteed to be fatal (then again, there have been records of people surviving bullets in the brain as well.)

Heh, Yeah, well, as I said, if someone was coming at me to slash me with an Axe, I'd probably shoot them. You know, self defense; the reason why we have the right to bare arms. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee152/orzww/the_right_to_bear_arms.jpg

But under normal circumstances, no, I wouldn't shoot anyone.

Well, I've fantasized about sertain things, but not much. I also had some urges after Resident Evil 4, I wanted to kick a zombies head off, like Leon sometimes does. I love the Metal Gear games, and right after beating any of them, I'd be a little more sneaky for a week or so.

Of course, this can go for all media. I had the most intense urge to kick a TV and break the screen after watching that new Die Hard movie for some reason, ha ha.

Personally, I believe most people are like me. We all get these funny urges that we'll never act upon, unless of course the person has consumed of certain substances, legal or not. There are exceptions to every rule, and I'd say, as an amateur psychologist, that many of those cases of violence due to video games could be the effects of personailty disorders.

my ex-girl friend affected me more than violent games.

I never had urge to kill playing games, but when I used to talk to my ex, I had plenty of urges to kill.

I'm certain just about everyone has fantasized about doing some of the things they see in videogames. Same goes for movies, books, TV, song, speeches... anything. What separates the crazies and the not-crazies are the people who actually who act out the dangerous fantasies.

Yes, I even heard of someone killed with a muffin (I'm not kidding!), but that and the soccer ball are peaks of extreme misfortune, while arterial lacerations in the so-called 'non vital spots' are awfully frequent. I so much hate guns, you know.

I may be the only one to admit it, but they have definitely effected me. My family thinks i'm crazy because i'm always out in the yard jumping on mushrooms and throwing turtles at other turtles. Seriously, where's the harm in that?

I like turtles.

Same here. Every time I pick something up I raise it over my head and yell: "TA-DA-DA-DAAAAAA!!"

This really gets awkward whenever I go in the woods for chestnuts.

Well really i don't think games are the issue. Someone already commented about having urges after playing things like Resident evil 4 and such, but violence in games as all the parents like to attack at. Well seriously what about movies you know? I know movies that have more violence and gore than 5 violent games put together. Movies are just obviously more realistic(some :P) games don't even really come close to the realism that movies do.

I heard on the news a little while back they were doing some report on people who play violent video games are less affected by death or shootings. Now maybe it's just me but thats a total load of rubbish, but yeah i don't know about you guys but i've been affected a lot more over a movie than a game. Sure maybe not everyone has mushroom jumping urges heh, but still, we see something in a game and it looks cool so we think about doing it but for the crazy ones who carry out things like the GTA type stuff, i think they were probably mentally unstable to begin with. But no games don't affect me ^^

No not at all, and alcohol doesn't make me violent either like most of the things the government blame violence on. The only thing I can think of that makes me violent is a defensive retaliation to violence :| which is ironic lol.

They affect me in only that they make me more aware and wanting to defend myself if faced with real danger. But they don't make me paranoid or more violent, they're more of a way to have fun or even to relaxe than anything. I certainly don't have the urge to kill someone.

Nope. Games are games that all there is to it.
